It's no surprise to anyone that this forum section is the most popular on the site.

With so much activity, I've been debating splitting the forum up into two or three sections.

My question to everyone- good or bad idea?

If you think yes- please provide ideas for how we should do it. :withstupid:

I kind of agree. I don't mind reading about other years and I will venture into that section still, but I think it would help.

Voted no becuase I like have the richness of all information in one spot; even if it requires shifting through the first couple pages of threads or using the search command (which I found that works only 50% of the time).

I think there is a much easier solution....either get rid of the polls completely or at least make it so a vote (with no posted response) does not bump it to the top of the forum.

Many GMT900 owners were/are also 800 and 400 owners. This mingling is helpful to share the experience and knowledge across model changes.

I think it's good the way it is. The majority of people on this site drive half tons, whether it's an SUV, or a pickup, which brings a lot of people with different experience into the one section.

I also think splitting it up between generations would be a bad idea. There are many more GMT-900 owners than GMT-800 or GMT-400, and that bias is only going to get more extreme. I feel like if there were sub-sections for each platform, most people would only look in the section for their style truck, and none of the older/newer ones. This would decrease traffic in the threads about 400 and 800 series trucks, and even of someone with a GMT-900 doesn't have a older truck anymore, they could still have some valuable input on the older trucks.

More people reading a thread = more people responding. Different sub-sections (whether it's truck vs. SUV, or by platform) will only decrease traffic.

I agree,I voted no also for this reason.

Agreed!

I would leave it the way it is as there is lots on info that is quite similar between the SUV and full size truck. JMHO.

I voted yes - by truck and SUV. I know there is a lot of commonality between the two. But, splitting them between truck and SUV should make it a little easier to see "just" the truck stuff or "just" the SUV stuff, without having Yukons, Tahoes, and Suburbans mixed in with the Siera / Silverado stuff... Search would still be available. So, you'd still be able to search and if you find a solution to your problem in a different forum, good for you.

By generation "sounds" good, on the surface. But, as someone else pointed out, a lot of 900 owners were 800 owners and/or 400 owners... So, if we split those out, people may not get their questions answered, unless they jump over and "just post it in full-size 900, so people might see it, because that's where all the action is."
