Amp Help Needed

Recommended Posts

Ok so the other day i'm driving along and the bass was pumping and all of a sudden it stopped  I dont have any real great sub setup , just a MTX thunder 4122 amp and pioneer 10" sub... Ive had it setup in my truck for 2 years now and this is the first time its happening.... Amp is grounded properely under seat belt bolt , its getting juice....

What i found to be the problem is the remote turn on. The wire is hooked up properely, (tapped into wiper acc in fuse block) (and i know it works because i have my remote turn on lead from compressor for train hoen tapped into same fuse..) I didnt find any splits in wire to amp either...

Heres the thing, when i jump the amp (take pliers and go from 12v screw on amp to the remote, it turns it on fine) but as soon as i remove the pliers it turns off liek it should... so why isnt it getting the signal from the fuse block? This is a fairly simple setup, that i have done multiple times, so i am really puzzled.... could something be wrong with amp?

any help would be greatly appreciated!

That's not hooked up properly.

You've ruled out the amp, so get a voltmeter and check the voltage at the fuse and at the end of the wire by the amp. If there's power at the fuse but none at the end of the wire, then the wire needs to be replaced. If there's no voltage at the fuse either, it could be several things... blown fuse, bad connection, etc.

There is a wire coming off your head unit that is specifically for this purpose,it sends the signal to the amp for it to turn on when your hu is on and off when its off.

Currenty the wire i have tapped off the fuse block also has a splice off of it for the remote turn on for my compressor... so it is definately sending out power. The amp just dosent want to turn on

factory head unit dosent have a remote turn on... I have a diff unit i bought to hook up to factory bose amp to output the signal to amp for rca.... u still need a turn on

Ok...I may be confused but from what I understand you have power, ground, rcas to hu but what you dont have is the remote turn on connected from the hu to the amp, correct?

edit...I cant read, just noticed you have he factory hu

Hi jackson , been better... Seems quiet around the ole stomping ground w/o u........

any way. I think i can pretty much rule out the remote source being the problem since it is good enough to control the relay for the compressor i have hooked up.....

I'm starting to think its the amp... something not switching inside like a relay...

you guys are better off. tell Mark I said hello.

hope you figure out your problem soon. what kind of amp is it? specs?

If it was the amp, it wouldn't turn on when you connected the remote turn-on input to the 12volt input.

I would just get a low-voltage trigger like the PAC TR-4 and call it done. It senses current in the speaker wires and give you a 12-volt turn on lead.

as for specs...

30 x 2 @ 4 ohms RMS @ 12.5v

50 x 2 @ 4 ohms RMS @ 14.4v

60 x 2 @ 2 ohms RMS @ 12.5v

80 x 2 @ 2 ohms RMS @ 14.4v

120 x 1 @ 4 ohms RMS @ 12.5v

200 x 1 @ 4 ohms RMS @ 14.4v

Fuse: 20A

according to.. this website... its been plenty enough amp to power the one 10" i got... my truck allready has the factory bose system w/ sub, but this just adds what the 4' bose sub cant, lol

is that kinda liek the gm-12aux ? i allready bought that and have installed to the factory amp.. i think that had the remote lead on it but when i first hooked this up a audio place advised me / helped me to hook it up to the fuse box instead...

tommorow i will try and get a diff remote turn on location even tho the one i got now works for the compressor... if that dont work, i'll be going to the original audio shop that helped me out..

No, it's nothing like that. It's basically just a relay that can be triggered by very low voltage, like a speaker lead.

If you have the compressor connected in the exact same place, I'm thinking that the remote wire got pinched somewheres and finally failed. You really need to check it with a multimeter.

I do have the compressor connected to the same exact place and it still kicks on... i know this cause i emptied the tank to the point where it kicks on w/ pressure switch (neighbors appreciated me when i did that) hahahahaha

:jester: mah bad. I would definitely check for a wire that may have gotten pulled loose or damaged.
