Sierra Start Problem

Hi all, newbe here, first post. RE: 95 Sierra, 350, auto, 165,000 miles. Bought this truck a few months ago as a occaisional use truck and has run fine, passed echeck with no problem. It's been running and starting fine for 4 months now even with once a week use. So, my girlfriend has been using it for a week and left the interior lights on today after driveing to work. Came out at lunch and it would not start. After work several people tried to help get it started by jumping the battery but no luck.

So I went tonight and gave it a shot. No luck so I pulled the battery connections and cleaned the terminals (damn side post batteries), let it charge up a bit from my car and it started. Drove it to local parts store and they checked the battery and said it was fine, just low charge. When trying to restart, it would NOT start again. When trying to crank, all 4 headlights would come on! I even pulled the low beam fuse and they STILL came on! So I pulled the battery and have it on slow overnight charge and will give it a shot in the morn.

Could this be in the ignition switch? The starter? I give up.

Thanks in advance,

John

Well with a fully charged battery - same result. I am now wondering if something could have been damaged by improperly jumping the battery. Why would all 4 headlights come on when turning the ignition to the start position? I really can't afford to have it diagnosed and repaired at a shop. In fact, I'll have to get it towed and have no money for that. Damn.

Just got it towed home and bounced ideas off the guy driving the tow truck. Seems like a fried wireing harness. I asked my girlfriend about it and she said a few people tried to jump it after work, one had a jumper box. I'll bet one of those helpful people reversed the jumper cables long enough to do damage to the harness. Now I'll have to track it down. Not my idea of fun. I HATE electrical problems.

Is there an in-line fuse with those wiring harness?

I'll have to check, but if that blew, I figure I'd get nothing. And I get all that messed up stuff (headlights - high and low, and rt turn sig)coming on when I hit the starter.

But I will check that out.

Thanks,

John
