De-badged the truck this weekend and after pulling the Silverado emblem off, was left with this beautiful outline...

Does anyone here have any good idea or anything on how to remove this outline? It's a very feelable lip in the paint where I guess the layers of wax have built up around the emblem.

I wonder if clay would remove the residue? I know when they undercoated my truck, it helped to remove over spray, and it was on there pretty good.

Is it on both sides like that?

It may have been painted without removing the emblem. If so, some wetsanding and buffing might make it less noticeable. If it is only buildup around the emblem, some light compound should remove it.

I would try claying, polishing, and waxing the entire panel real good first. The paint under the emblem just didn't fade like the rest over time. If doing those things doesn't make it alot less obvious, you will probably have get more invasive with the panel like stated above.

Kinda depends on what it really is. Almost looks like glue from the emblem, in which case some goo-gone would work. If it's wax, I'd also try some clay and/or rubbing compound.

its deffinetly not glue, all of that was removed with goo gone, and the detailer guy i used to work with said it deffinetly looks like paint, like how Jim said it may have been painted (guessing clear coated) around the emblem.

the detail guy said that he highly doubts clay will remove it and is pretty unsure about even wet sanding it...

not sure what to do, even to make it less noticeable would be great... now its not bad (only see it when up close within a few feet) but totally gone would be great.

EDIT: Jim, I assume you mean both emblems on the tailgate? If so, no they both werent like that, just the Silverado one.

Try using some wd-40 to take it off. I removed my tailgate emblems and there was a little outline that the goo gone didn't remove and I used the WD40 and it took it right off. Just give it a try. Then hit it up with some quick detailer to remove the wd40 residue.

haha alright alright! ill try the wd-40 tomorrow... but im pretty sure it still wont do it

David... that was the whole point of taking them off!!! lol.

im just thankfull that its really not that noticable unless you are standing right behind the truck looking for it.

tried the WD-40 but it didnt do anything... guess time will fix it and with some good buffing.

That sucks I guess then the tailgate was painted at one point like you said and needs a good buffing with compound to remove that outline.

Whatever it's worth... the truck looks awesome in the pictures.

I guess you can always put emblems back on if you can't get it off... not the end of the world.

Yea I'm not even sweating it anymore... Can hardly see the outline but it just bugs me a little that I know it's there.

Thanks everyone for all the tips though... Guess time and some good waxing and buffing is the only fix haha.
