will a cold air intake that fits the 6.0 or smaller engines fit onto the 8.1? id like to get an intake for my 8.1 but for the little gains you actually get im having a hard time justifying the 300 bucks for one. however there are some companies on ebay that make them for much cheaper but still look just as good, the part that has me troubled is they claim they fit everything from the 4.8 to the 8.1 but i know there are some differences in the intake tube and throttle body angles between the bigblock and the small blocks. what do you think.

p.s. ive only had this truck for about 2 months now and before it the newest truck ive ever had was a '73 so all this fancy electronicly stuff is a bit scary still so im glad theres a place like this i can come to help take pressures off my brain :rollin:

yes, you will have to clearance around the radiators smaller hose over by the air box but other then that they fit, felt the same way when I bought mine way back when, I then got a quality filter for it from Summit Racing and have been happy with it since

The stock 6.0 and 8.1 box are the same. Leavce it alone, you will only make it worse by buying that junk you are looking at.

I would keep the OEM intake and just make minor adjustments to it. I would replace the filter with a good one like TrueFlow, and replaced the intake tube with the AirAid replacement tube that has no restriction. Other than that GMs factory intakes are just fine for the job. Just not "cool looking" but does that really matter.

The GM trucks (at least most of them, far as I know come with high capacity air cleaner, I wouldn't waste my money on an after market, unless of coarse it really did make a huge difference. All the hype these after market air filter Co. claim and the hefty tag is outrageous! After all it is just paper, plastic, and rubber we are talking here, with a metal clamp here and there, how they can charge $300 remains a mystery to me.

i decided to scratch the idea of the intake cuz i found a good deal on a OE replacement trueflow filter.
