Removing Door Panel Of 08 Silverado?

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased 2 sets of chrome OEM exterior door handles from Chevy. I decided to try to install them myself because the dealership wanted $350 to install them. After removing the interior window switch/ door unlock panel, I popped all the white pins holding the panel to the door. That is where I got stuck. I could not get the inside door handle disconnected from the door itself. I need some help getting the door panel off my truck. It is alot harder than I expected. Any help would be great.

Just pull it firmly...It's got pop-in clips so a lil force is needed....I think most are metal so don't worry about breaking em.

This has been discussed before, but I cannot find those topics. I am search-challenged today. :D

Anyway, when I did mine, I followed the instructions that came with the replacement door handles. Here is a link to a good write-up, with pictures, for changing the door handles on the GMT900 trucks. If you have the LTZ, the door panel will be slightly different, but the instructions are essentially the same.

Good luck! :D

You have to disengage the cable from the door (where it contacts the door between the braided portion and the covered portion of the cable). Doing this will give you the needed slack to push the cable forward and release the barrel from the handle. Right angle needle nose pliers work best for this operation.

I was able to leave my cables connected when I did my new outside handles. It made it a very quick and easy job.

Thanks pjb for the link. They chrome door handles look great and were pretty simple to install once I read the directions on the link. I will be adding a billet grille tomorrow.....I hope it installs as easy as the door handles. Thanks again pjb

The grill is much easier to remove/install than the door handles (I've done both). There are some plastic "pin locks" (for lack of a better term) holding the plastic top plate over the radiator. You have have to pop them all up and then just lift off the cover. This will give you full access to the grill. There are several clips that hold the grill to the metal frame that you just pinch in with needle nose pliers. Don't remember how many, but it wasn't more than 8 or so and they are clearly visible. After you get them loose, the grill will come right out.
