Build Sheet Question

Here is a portion of my build sheet, what does it mean? I understand the power steering one, they fixed that, but the paint. Is this saying that they are aware of it, or that they fixed it?

08-08-51-004 is an engineering informational bulliten. It was put out so that engineering and brand quality could better understand any paint concerns. Dealers were to file a report and wait to see if brand quality wanted to do a hands on inspection then proceed with paint repair. Do you have any paint concerns? This operation is not supposed to be used if a paint repair was not performed so I would say they did the repair.

Unfortunately I do have concerns about it. My truck is Victory red and the orange peel is noticeable from about 10 feet away. I have waxed and clay’d it twice and the paint still is rough and there are several spot on the roof that look like the clear coat is peeling. It kind of sucks that they knew about it and still let it out the door. Maybe that’s why I got such a good deal on it?

It was a new vehicle right? There is no reason to discount a new vehicle for something that warranty will pay for. Warranty pays for orange peel so take it in and get it fixed. Are these claims from before you owned the vehicle? Ask the dealer if they only submitted the report but didn't do the fix. If they did do the fix show them where it isn't up to standard.

Yes the truck was new. These are claims from before I purchased the truck. As for if the repaired it or not, I will assume that they repaired the power steering leak, I’ve been under the truck and haven’t seen any fluids. I’m convinced that they did do anything for the paint. I’m going to the dealer tomorrow morning to talk with the service manager, and I imagine the Sales manger after I bring this up. I’ve never dealt with this dealer before, but I think they have a decent reputation. I asked the sales guy when we bought the truck if there was anything ever wrong with it and he said no. But then I got a call a week later telling me he got fired. Who knows….

Good luck too you, I wouldn't get too jacked up about it as long as they fix it. The sales department rarely knows what the service department is doing and vice vesa. Do yourself a favor and go in without thinking they are out to get you. Put some positive attitude in and you get some out usually. If you go running to talk to every manager in the place without a simple complaint first you quickly get branded as a pain in the butt. It's not the dealers money that gets spent for warranty repairs it's GM's so we generally have zero problem repairing what is wrong and taking GM's money. Make the complaint and if it doesn't get fixed then it's time for some more inquiry.

It isn’t my intention to go in with a bad attitude. I just assume that once they know what my issues are they will try and do everything to make me happy. The problem is that I’m already happy with my truck and the buying experience, as far as I know they have no idea what’s going on with my particular truck. I just want to make sure that those issues are taken care of, and I’ll still tell people to go there. Since I’ve bought my truck 2 of my friends and my brother all went there and bought something from them.

Well that could have gone better. My first question is, are those 2 bulletins specific for my truck or do they come with every 2008 Chevy truck? The service manager said that my truck never had a leak, and that the paint was fine except for the clear coat issue. He told me that the reason for the clear coat coming off was due to dust while shipping and that GM wasn’t responsible for.
