Information On 2000-2003 Suburbans

My buddy wants to buy between a 2000-2003 Suburban for around $8-11,000 grand. The ones we have found have been between 80-110k miles. Just wanted to throw this out here on the forum.

Any major problems with these years Suburbans?

Powertrain, Drivetrain, Transmission, Engine, Mechanical, Electrical?

This would be a 4x4 with 5300 and Automatic.

Just wanted to get some advice on these years, and any major problems people have run into. I assume they are easily good for 150k miles, just wanted some input.

Steering clunk is an easy fix with a new intermediate shaft, mine has never had the trans clunk and believe it or not, mine has never had the cold engine knock. 62k now on mine which is pretty low miles for an 02 but still no knock.

I wouldn't worry about the cold start knock, steering shaft or the trans. clunk

on a used up older burb. They are a minor issue that won't effect operation

at all.

The only major issues would be if the burbs you find have the autoride and/or

auto level systems. Those are VERY $pendy and trouble prone to repair and

should be avoided at all costs.......................

Otherwise these are a bulletproof people/cargo/towing haulers.

I have had zero issues with my '01 and it's autoride. I have read about people that have had problems, but I don't think it is anymore widespread than any other single "issue" with these vehicles. I know many people with this system, and they haven't had any problems either.

True.....................But the repair on the steering shaft don't cost THOUSANDS

to repair or even the troubles to shut off the service ride control messages/

SES lights which in some states (like NY) cause you to FAIL your yearly NYS

inspection.

Several threads both here and fullsizechevy.com on the auto level/ride

horrors, repairs and fixes..................

Sure a PIA option that I would avoid !!!!!!!!!!!
