'02 Ac Not Cooling, Intermittingly

Hey Chevy guys,

wd, 5.3, auto, LS, 118K mi.

The ac has stopped cooling a couple of times in the past month. Yesterday, it worked great for a mile or so, then the air got warmer. The ac on switch was not kicking the compressor on. Temp switch would change air temp from warm (vent) to hot. The ac snowflake light was on, but the comp. was not. I turned all off and back on, went from recirc. to fresh, etc. Nothing. This morning it worked great again, and also noon, and evening.

Any tips on what to check? No different noises or performance, so I am guessing it is an electronic issue. Thank you for your help.

Intermittants are hard to guess at but a cheap part that we have problems with is the pressure switch, it will cause this complaint. If it were my vehicle I would probably throw one at it just because it's cheaper than spending time trying to make it happen. It also happens to be about the only part of the a\c system that can be changed without evacuating and recharging the system.

Thanks for the info,Those #$%*!! intermittents are always hard to catch. Would a low freon level cause it to do this? It cut off 4-5 times tonite. I hope I can get it fixed tomorrow. I will post the cure.later,Babyhauler
