C0300 Error Code

Recommended Posts

I had my garage install a replacement 4WD Actuator hoping to clear a 'Service 4WD' message on my DIC. No luck. However, this time, the mechanic noted the error code: C0300 "Rear Prop Shaft Circuit Malfunction". Is this something that can be replaced? He said it may be related to a speed sensor... I hope it's not the prop shaft!!!

Please advise.

Info:

2003 Chevy Silverado

4.8L

Z71 4WD

Extend Cab

Front-steer only

Approx 58,000 miles

P.S. If this is a failure in the 4WD/4Hi/4Lo/2SD button panel in the dashboard, please advise regarding a replacement part number. Many thanks!

Looks like we to start a boating section.

What I've found so far that is helpful:

Service 4WD Light On, 4WD Inoperative, Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) C0300 and/or C0305 Set (Reprogram Transfer Case Control Module (TCCM)) #03-04-21-005 - (Jun 5, 2003)

2003 Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe, TrailBlazer

2003 GMC Envoy, Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL

2003 Oldsmobile Bravada

with 4WD (RPOs NP4, NP8)

Condition

Some customers may comment that the Service 4WD light is on and/or the 4WD is inoperative.

Cause

Condition may be caused by a TCCM calibration issue.

Correction

Follow the service procedure below for diagnosis and repair of this condition.

1. With a scan tool, select the TCCM DTCs.

- If TCCM DTCs C0300 or C0305 are present in the TCCM, continue with TCCM reprogramming in Step 2.

- If TCCM DTC C0374 is present with any of the above codes, disregard and clear the DTC and continue with TCCM reprogramming in step 2.

- If TCCM DTC C0374 is present alone with none of the above listed codes, additional diagnosis is required. Refer to Service Information (SI) for proper diagnosis of the applicable vehicle.

- If TCCM DTC C0550 is present, refer to DTC C0550 in SI for proper diagnosis of the applicable vehicle.

2. Clear all DTCs and reprogram the TCCM with TIS version 3.5 or newer released to the dealers on 3-22-03. Refer to Transfer Case Control Module Reprogramming (SI Document ID #727487).

Worth noting:

The 'Service 4WD' message in the DIC always comes when the truck first hits 3rd gear. If I press the DIC reset button, the odometer info displays. The message does not re-appear until the next time I start the truck and reach 3rd gear (the next trip).

I've also noted that when the truck is in 'Auto 4WD', it appears to 'slow' or drag when I enter a turn (on a dry road).

Also, if I select '4 Hi' I am unable to move to '2 Hi' (normal mode) without shutting the truck off and restarting. I sometimes can't shift it from 'Auto 4WD' to '2 Hi' without moving it to 4 Hi or 4 Lo.

I have observed the switch 'lights' completely go out when driving in '2 Hi'. This happened just once.
