Gm Bug Guard Question

Recommended Posts

Washing/waxing the Yukon today, I notices that under my GM bug guard was a lot of crap (leaves, bugs, etc.). I removed it to wax under it, but I was wondering if I could put it back on without the 3M tape; just use the clips. I like the idea on not really having crap get trapped in between the hood and it, plus I like the idea of water flowing right past it instead of sitting in that space waiting to evaporate. Though, I wonder if this would cause a problem with it flapping or even flying off.

Thoughts?

I don't even remember 3M Tape coming with mine, just the clops/screws. I would think it would be fine with it. Unless of course the Yukon bug shield attaches differently than it does on the Sierra.

I have never heard of bug shield using 3M but I have never gotten the GM accessory

It attaches with a clip on each end. Then there was 3M double-sided foam tape all along the bottom.

How is the Sierra's attached?

According to his sig, Paul has the EGR brand hood deflector, not the GM one. The GM ones do use 3M tape along the bottom with clips at each end. On the Sierra, it goes around the chrome piece on the hood, so there is no place for clips in the center area. You need the 3M tape on the GM ones for the Sierra, not 100% sure about the Yukons.

BTW, I called the dealer today inquiring about a color-matched one and they do not offer it in Steel Gray yet, but are coming out with new colors gradually. So, since I do not like the smoked ones, the chrome one stays until the colormatched ones are available in Steel Gray.

Damn. Looks like off to Lowes this morning to get some replacement 3M tape.

Sorry, I thought I had the GM one! What do I know, it was over a year ago that got it. It attached under the hood lip with screws that replace the existing screws that hold the rubber weather strip in place.

I would go to an automotive store and get the 3M weatherstrip tape. It will be much more weather-resistant.
