Hitch Setup Question

I'm looking to get a trailer hitch for my '07 GMT900 Silverado. I'm wondering what to get though. I'll be using it for pulling things around the farm/woods and pulling other pick-ups out of too thick mud pits. Should I get the whole Hitch Trailering Package from GM for $225 that comes with the 2" receiver as well as the wiring receptacle? Or.....should I just get a hitch from this website for between $150-$193 that is just the receiver only (no wiring)? For what I'm using it for I don't see a need for the wiring receptacle but depending on which hitch I would choose from the website I listed it would only be somewhere around $60-$5 saved. Should I need a wiring receptacle down the road however I can always buy it alone from GM or Auto Zone, etc.

What do yall say?

I would recommend that if you are going to get the hitch to get the wiring harness as well. This way if you need to ever tow a trailer on a road then you are set up with lights and you are all legal. Why limit yourself or the truck WRT towing?

You won't need the wire harness....until you're in a situation and you'll want it.

I agree with Outbacker.

OK, I think I'll just shell out the extra cash for the GM package. Does the kit come with installation instructions on where to bolt and everything else?

It's a no brainer once you hold it up in place... all of the holes are already there and obvious. The harness is a quick plug in. You'll have time to have a couple of beers in your hour.

I switched my wiring hookup with a 7-4 connector from Autozone, was pretty easy to do...Still have my factory 7 recept but not sure what I want to do with it yet....

I would get one of those reese hitches, especially the solid cross bar type as tube ones can bend under repeated heavy stress (IE pulling out stuck trucks)...

This link is from GMPartsdirect. Is it the same thing from GM's website? Also, will gmpartsdirect ship a hitch straight to my home address? If they do I wish I would've ordered my wheel house liners from them instead of my dealer. Here's the link:http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results.cfm?s...number=19159369

gmpartsdirect might be lower in price until you add in their shipping charges, then there is usually no diference. They also take forever to ship. I do not recommend them.
