Nav Disc Update

Recommended Posts

Posted

I called about a Nav Disc update for my 07 CC yesterday and I was told that I was not qualified because my truck was a certified pre-owned. I was almost certain that I had read a TSB on here that said I was, but I did not have any evidence at the time and did not argue.

So I searched and found the post I was thinking about and according to it, I should receive one free update. Or am I misunderstanding it?

What are your thoughts? Rich maybe you could way in.

DVD Navigation Update Program

To improve customer satisfaction with factory-installed DVD Navigation Systems, General Motors offers a Navigation Disc Update Program for 2006 and 2007 model year vehicles. Offering GM customers new navigation DVDs will ensure that the customers have the latest information for their system. The data on the DVD map disc ages at a rate of 15-20% per year. As the data ages, the functionality of the navigation system declines. All navigation systems utilize the DVD disc for map and points of interest data.

The DVD Navigation Update Program policy has changed for the 2008 model year. 2008 model year vehicles are NOT eligible for free annual updates; however, a navigation DVD update disc can be purchased for $199 (USD) + shipping.

Navigation Disc Update Program Details:

• All 2006-2007 model year customers who purchase or lease GM vehicles (excluding Saab) with a factory-installed navigation system are eligible to receive two free annual updates.

- Owners will be contacted annually, on or about the anniversary of their vehicle delivery date.

- Owners must indicate that they want an update via a toll free number, or through the web.

- Owners will be contacted the second time at the second anniversary date of their delivery.

• 2008 model year vehicles are NOT eligible for free annual updates. 2008 model year customers may purchase a DVD map update for $199 (USD) + shipping. The DVD map updates are available annually at the beginning of the new model year.

• All certified used vehicle customers (Optimum in Canada) with a factory installed navigation system, who purchased their vehicle from April 2006 or later, will receive one free update after their delivery. Owners will receive a free update within 60 days of their vehicle purchase. If the certified used vehicle (Optimum in Canada) vehicle contains the latest disc, the free update will be sent at the time the disc is updated.

• Navigation discs will no longer be available through GMSPO.

- Dealers will be able to order a replacement DVD through the web or by contacting the GM Navigation Disc Center in the event a replacement DVD is required under warranty (for Saab, this applies to the 9-5 and 9-7X models).

- Owners of 2005 model year and prior vehicles can order an update or replacement via the web or toll free number at market price.

- Further information regarding the availability of updates for Saab certified pre-owned vehicles will be released in the near future.

• The GM Navigation Disc Center launched on March 15, 2006. There are two ways to obtain an updated disc.

- Via the web through gmnavdisc.com

- GM Navigation Disc Center 1-877-628-3472

- The GM Navigation Disc Center is also the center of expertise for navigation system questions.

AVN Software Update Discs

Technical Service Bulletins are sometimes generated to address specific navigation radio operational or performance issues. When a navigation radio bulletin is issued, it will contain instructions to utilize an advanced vehicle navigation (AVN) software update with a specific part number. GM dealers must order advanced vehicle navigation (AVN) software update discs from the GM Navigation Disc Center. These discs will no longer be available from GMSPO.

AVN software update discs are for the dealer to update the navigation radio software only. They do NOT update or replace the navigation map disc that is supplied with the vehicle. Please order these parts only as needed. There is a limited supply of these discs available. Do not order these discs for stock. AVN software update discs can be used to reprogram more than one vehicle. The first update disc for each P/N is free. Subsequent copies of the same P/N for the same dealer will cost $50 (USD).

To obtain an AVN software update disc, contact the GM Navigation Disc Center at 1-877-628-3472.

That is correct but the problem is they have a listing of how many times a disc has been ordered. I remember that for new vehicles, you could get up to two free updated discs and for CPO/CUV vehicles it was one. (Sorry I am not rich). You might want to call the dealer to see if they have 'used' up that free updated disc for your vehicle.

Thanks Mike! I think Rich originally posted this, that's why I asked him. As far as I know the update has not been used. The nav disc says it is Telemap 2005 (or something to that effect). If an update was sent the original owner apparently never installed it.

No you dont, you are the parts guru!

I actually used to give these away to customers and paid for them using GM money. It was for 'additional satisfaction'. I used to love telling those idiots at GMNAVDISC that GM was going to pay for it and they would always say "That is not possible" and stuck to that argument until I gave them the company account and authorization number.

Same thing with Onstar, Roadside, and GMPP. All those departments and their personnel is what I hated the most, they made it hard as hell to 'satisfy the customer'

Posted

Robert,If you post your VIN I can call them and find out how many updates the trucks had.

Us dealers have a different "link" we use on the NAV-Disc website.

But I'm kinda' on the "other end" from where you were.

Yeah they were idiots. good example is if your onstar system was failing (for whatever reason) and your truck was in the shop for an extended period of time, I would offer to extend the Onstar Service not only for the time that the truck was in the shop, but extend for an additional year AND throw in two additional free updates on those Nav Discs. You live a lonely desolate life???

Oh well! Thanks for your help Rich and Mike.

I'm glad you reminded me about the heated washer fluid issue. I just had my truck at the dealer last friday for a leaking sun roof and had them fix the brake light switch. They did not say a thing about it. But this does not surprise me. After this last visit, I wrote an email to the service manager expressing my disappointment with the way my truck was returned to me. The interior was spotless (I spent about 2 hours cleaning the inside a few days prior) when it went into the shop. When I recieved it back it had black foot prints all over the door trim seals, carpet and scuffs on the doors from boots. Plus, it had 8 miles more on it then when I dropped it off. I didn't realize that either of the things I dropped it off for required a test drive.
