The tires on my 2008 Silverado are getting worn some,, 18 inch wheels,, the tires are 265/65/18, Checked with about 3 places on the price of tires,, roughly $1000-$1500 to replace.. It is a truck, I want truck tires. I haul a small camper, I also cut firewood for the house, etc. The ones for almost $1500 were 10 plys and the others were 6 plys, They said the 18 inch tires were almost double the price of 17 inch tires, what a rip off. Just wanted to vent some, I hear some of the Dodges are using 20-22 inch rims and the tires for them are lots more than mine. DAve

Check with some online retailers. Places like tirerack.com . You may be able to find some better deals. What are you hauling that you need 10 ply's? Not saying you don't need them, just wondering.

Also, if the tires on you truck are wearing funny. You might check with you dealer to see if you can warranty them. Then sell the new ones to get the tires you want. Maybe not, but worth a try.

What tires are on the truck now and how many miles are on it? My '08 Silverado 1500 Z71 4x4 came with Bridgestone Dueler A/T RH-S tires in 265/65-18 and they are rated to carry 2485 lbs each and have a treadwear rating of 400. Yes, they are P-metric tires and not an LT rated tire, but how much weight are you putting on your truck? And for how long and what driving distances?

Tire Rack shows that specific tire at $165.00 each. Add about $75 for freight for 4 tires and probably $25 per tire for mounting and balancing and you are at $835 or so.

If it's a 1500, then tires like mine that would support nearly 5000 lbs on the rear; that should be more than what the truck will safely handle.

If you go with aftermarket helper springs, air bags or something else, then obviously an LT tire in a Load Range D or E is more like what you need. But expect to get a rough ride and probably less wear from LT tires.

I spent about 1200 on 285/65r18 BFG A/Ts, load range E...My stockers weren't worn out, just wanted a bigger tire and more aggressive tread. They are on my boss' F-150 now and still look pretty good.

Something to remember for the future: bigger diameter wheel rims are not necessarily better and mean more $$$$$$$$$ for tires. I am glad I have 17 inch rims on my truck. I have 14 inch rims on my '85 diesel Mercedes 300D and I love the prices on those tires! :)

Thanks guys,, will prob end up putting reg tires back on instead of LT tires, I like the thicker tires, hate flats. I have a pop up camper that I haul, plus in the winter I haul firewood, I also drive a lot of gravel roads in the National forest taking photos of deer in the winter time too, so like an aggressive tread for snow and mud.
