after doing a front rotor /pad change on a 03 silv, i was told the abs coming on at low speeds could be fixed by pulling the abs sensor and cleaning the rust under it....well i pulled both sensors on the 2nd one i noticed some of the wire fillaments were coming off....so i did some research on this site and apparently the sensor have a sleeve over them that didnt come out when i pulled them out? anyhow when i was all done and back together i now have a abs light on in the truck...so can someone tell me are both these sensors junk now? is there a way i can test them?

Your sensor actually pulled apart while you were trying to remove it from the hub, causing the ABS light.

Anytime you remove the sensor, and the plastic collar stays lodged in the hub, you MUST install a new ABS sensor.

As far as the plastic collar--take a pick to it, and slowly lift it out of the hub. It will come out.

Now you also know which side was triggering false ABS signals---the side that broke.

I would also take your VIN to the local dealer--have them check for any open recalls. Some trucks are covered, under recall for this, some are not.

they both came out the same way, almost like they were supposed to come out like that..apparently not though...are they 100% garbage or can they still function, it seems they come out of that sleeve pretty damn easy

They are both 100% garbage

Get new sensors.

not what i was wanting to hear this sounds expensive....if i have time tomorow i'll go to the parts shop and discuss the damage :-(

Iron,

Did the plastic come off with the sensors? When you first took them off?

you must measure the voltage at the sensor connector for more than 350MV AC...while rotating the hub.....you may need to use a fine file to remove the rust ...they must be mounted on clean metal ...only .001 of rust will give a low reading..if you get 500++MV AC you should not have any problems...

the sensors are junk ..this is a typical designed to fail part with GM charging excessive amounts for a 5.oo part made by slave labor...

it you have any metal on the sensor pick up the bearing/hub is n/g...
