Just got my dark blue metallic silverado last week. Any tips on keeping the blue lokkin good? I've been using the cheapest spray wax / cleaner from Walmart. I saw they had some for $10 a bottle. Anyone know what's the difference?

Also, what is best for cleaning the dash. Armorall does not seem to work well on the new type texture?

I have the same body and color truck..and let me tell you is a pain in the rear to keep it clean...I just use car soap and for the interior I use a product called 303 aerospace protectant, it works pretty well with the plastics and also if you have a vinyl tonneau cover it keeps it protected against UV rays.

A good detail spray will help keep the dust from sticking. But the only way to keep it clean is wash her every week and wax every 6 months.

Nice truck!

Thanks,

Dmas,

Where can you get 303 aerospace protectant. Have not seen at Walmart.

gnet158,

Can you recommend a good detail spray. hoefully for under $10 a bottle?

One problem I have is I can not was at home. Southeast Texas well water is so hard, that it spots immediately, so I have to wash in town, and then come home and detail!

My truck is that color also. It looks amazing when it's shined up but, terrible if it's even a little dirty. If it's just light dust that is bothering you a california duster works pretty good. Other than that just wash it and use detail spray afterward and keep a good coat of wax on it.

I recommend Zip car Wash. You add about two spoon fulls to a bucket of water and it will help remove dirt and will deposit a thin layer of wax that will protect your truck for a while. Better yet, it will deposit a layer of wax in the door cavities and protect your vehicle from corrosion. If you use this stuff regularly, you never have to wax the truck. Just do not use it on the windshield as it will cause streaking. I have been using this stuff for over 15 years and have nothing but great results to show. I hand wash my vehicles.

you can get it online, I think amazon and some other websites you can also get it from some Ace hardware stores...last much more longer than armoral and protects interior and exterior plastic and vinyls..

If you're happy with that particular set up, then by all means continue to do so. However, those AIO washes are no substitute for a proper sealant and wax combo.

Michael, the first thing you're going to want to do is get yourself a good war wash. I recommend anything by Meguiar's, although Duragloss is your best bet. Once washed, you'll want to apply a good sealant. I use Menzerna FMJ, but there are many other good ones out there. You'll have to order most sealants online, as they're not readily available OTC. A sealant is much more durable than a wax, typically lasting up to six months, whereas a typical carnauba wax will only last a couple months at best. Having said that, it's good to follow up the sealant with a carnauba based wax, as this will give your truck's finish that nice "pop" that people like so much. Any Meguiar's OTC wax is excellent, but if you're looking to really get some good results, I would recommend some Poorboys Natty's Blue. As far as the interior goes, Armor All is terrible, and should be avoided at all costs :puke: 303 Aerospace, which others have recommended, is an excellent choice. However, I would go with 1Z Cockpit. It's the absolute best interior cleaner on the market right now. The sealant, wax and interior cleaners that I've mentioned call all be ordered online. I know that it's a little more work than just going to your local Wal-Mart or auto parts strore, but the results are worth it.

On the topic of keepin it clean. I own a 08 K 1500 Blue. Anyone tried putting these bad boys through an auto wash with the antenna still attached? I have the removal tool handy just in case, but my truck is in need of a detail and I was hoping to get a quick one done.

Thanks Bostonfavson. A lot of good info. I am going shopping on line right now. Any website recomendations.

Also, already noticed a small scratch on the hood and a couple on the chrome bumber. Any recommendations on removing scratches from the paint and chrome?

I use Turtle 2001 protectant which is similar to Armorall. When I first got the truck and put the turtle 2001 on, there were dark and light spots but after consistantly using it for a couple of washes, you get a nice even shine.

So, If you want to stick with the Armorall, just keep using it and it will even out.

All of those products and more can be found at AutoGeeks.net, great company to deal with. Adam's and Zaino are other good choices as well.
