Rust

I washed my truck (GMT 900 Sierra) today for the first time since the snow and salt has hit the ground. Whlie rinsing off the bumper I noticed alot and I mean alot of small rust spots on the chrome. I knew I would get a few but its bad and i didn't think it would be this bad untill the truck is about 5 or 6 years old and this is only the begining of the first winter for it. I was just wondering if anyone has encountered this yet and if there is anything I can do. I just hope a bit of gas or something will take it off in the spring.

Don't wait until spring, get it looked at and replaced now. My bumpers are rust free and I have been through 1.5 Minnesota winters with it so far. And I don't even wash mine all that much in the winter.

It may be rail dust on the surface of the chrome. It's real common here where trucks are shipped by train to dealer hubs. If so, it will come off. I'd hit it with some steel wool and a coat of wax. It may well be gone for good if you do.

No, it wouldn't be rail dust (I wish it was). Everything comes up here on truck. But thanks anyway.

Do you know if there is any kind of warrenty on that? My dealership is hard enough to deal with as it is, not to mention bringing it in for something that won't be coverd. Their just going to laugh. Thanks!

Any snow storms recently? If so, alot of times the snowplow blades will put out alot of metal that gets splashed up onto the vehicle.

I would say yes to being covered. I had the center section of my bumper repainted on my truck due to all the paint chips and it was covered under the warranty.

Your bumper-to-bumper warranty will cover your bumper.

Also, your truck may show up at your dealership on a truck, most do, but that's not to say it didn't ride the rails along it's journey somewhere else.

True didn't think about that, people who know me know I don't think that far ahead, lol. I found a product called Never-Dull, (havn't used it yet). It says it's good for motorcycle and auto chrome. But if I use it more than likley the rust will come back and I did manage to rub off a bit of it with my thumb. I dunno, like I said my dealership is really hard to deal with and they will probebley laugh at me for something like this. Thanks for the input.
