Tool Boxes

Do you have a TSC (Tractor Supply Company) anywhere near you?  They have the best selection of boxes I have ever seen, all sizes and shapes.  It was the only place that carried a crossover box in the very small size we wanted.  Priced pretty responable too.

I had a Better Built box and it seemed like a good box and reasonable price too. Just make sure you get something good and thick to put down on the bed rails if you don't have anything. I used some foam sticky stuff that didn't last very good, and it wore into the paint and the sticky suff was hard to get off. I also lined the inside of it with carpet. Made it look nice and stuff didn't slide in it.

Hope this helps.

Roofer,

I am planning on putting rubber between bed rails and tool box. I had not thought of the carpet in the bottom of the box but sounds like a great idea. I just need some J bolts to hold it down.

The place where you buy the box should have the new brackets that are made to hold it down. The brackets that I had worked great. No holes in the bed rails and it fit snug. Mine had two plastic clamps with bolts through them. Try to find some clamps (brackets) like that, unless you already had a better idea.

Roofer,

I know what you are talking about and I don't think they work on stepsides. There is no rail to clamp to. I am planing on using j hooks to hold the box down. I am going to attach them to the hole in the side of the stake bed slot and to the tie downs that are U shaped.

Make sure you use wingnuts to tighten down the J-hooks.  That way you can easily remove the box without any tools when you need some extra room.  I did that with ours on kind of a whim and am glad I did.  It is amazing how often it comes out and goes back in.

Jpshostr,

Thanks for the advice. Where did you find the J hooks. I have been looking but have not any. I am going to Home Depot today and see if they have any.

My box came with them.  The design of the mounting system was for the J-hooks to be used to mount it by clamping it underneath the bedrails rather than drilling holes and bolting the box to the bed.  I just substituted wingnuts for the bolts.

Try Farm & Fleet or  Quality farm and Country, same store some have different names. I made my own j hooks for my toolbox, just buy a piece of threaded rod. Cut it to the legnth, or buy it that way, and the just put it in the vice and bend it. Might have to heat it, I didnt. I just put one in each side and they hold it fine, comes out quick too that way.

I am thinking that I will have to make my own J-hooks. I need 2 different sizes. That is part of the fun of owning a truck. Ryan I did not make it to Home Depot today, it is an hour away. I am going this week and will keep you in mind. I will post what I fined just as soon as I get back.
