After getting to 'test drive' my buddy's corvette, I started toying with the idea of putting a HUD system like what is in the corvette/dts/xlr into the Silverado. I know that with the integrated units and the new GMLAN, it is theoretically possible, but what I want to know if it is feasable with available parts. Anybody have any ideas for this or know of any parts store/website that would allow me to research this idea further? No I do not want fighter jet HUDs (before anybody suggests that).

Man! You take all the fun out of it! That's EXACTLY what I want! PLUS the weapons systems! Missiles. Gatlin Guns. The whole bit! :jester:

I don't have anything constructive to add, but I think it would be really cool.:jester:

Isn't that a pretty pricey option on the Vettes though? Not that anything on a Vette is exactly cheap . . .

 If that were the line of thinking, I would install it and then challenge somebody to a race...you might outrun my truck, but not my bullets and missiles

I searched the trusty ol' Corvette Forum. Found quite a bit of stuff really. (All for Corvettes, naturally)

I think you can view these threads without being a member. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I think after reading the first thread, I wouldn't want to mess with it on my truck. :jester:

Good luck and Godspeed.

well I have taken apart most of my dash when I was tinkering with the LED taillights, that is the easy part for me...those parts may be able to be retrofitted with some custom bracket work and cutting...think it would be covered under warranty since they would all be GM parts :D ?

This is something that I would be interested in....just kind of a neat gadget...just depends on the cost to do....I'm not to worried about the labor as my truck will probably be sitting most of the winter....

I would think it would be possible.....I mean the Acadia's have it which is the same LAN system...I have the same Steering Wheel, Nav Radio, Driver Information Controls as the Acadia....surely I could make something work?

I forgot that the Acadia had the HUD as an option...any chance I could get a part number. I might be able to see if it can be done electrically with the GMT800. the GMT900 should be alot easier as Travis pointed out

Oh man, what about someting with lasers on the front of the truck. Next prick to cut me off, or not use signal lights would get a high energy cutting beam right up the tailpipe. Mmmm. I can see it now. Kind of like a Death Race with attitude.

Got a hit off a linked website back to google with these search results:

This might be a better alternative if I can hack off that stupid screen and use the windshield to display the information...

Considering my 9 year old pontiac grand prix used to have a HUD, I'm not quite sure why GM doesn't use it in more vehicles. Although as I recall it did need a special windshield so it would reflect correctly. I really did like the HUD though... quite handy!
