2008 Gmc Vibration / Noise Question (dash)

2008 GMC extend cab 5.3 iron block AFM 1400 miles

right around 47 - 50 mph the harmonics of the engine change. at that time I have a low vibration noise, but fairly loud, in the dash that I can't locate / pin down. If I give a little gas the engine smooths out and the vibration / noise disappears. This is consistent at this speed and throttle.

any thoughts?

I occasionally have a vibration in the dash area as well but I think it is the entire front-most dash panel. If you reach up and slap your hand on the panel (the one that butts up against the windshield, not the one that's closest to you) you'll hear how loose it is and how much vibration could be had out of it. I am planning to pull mine and place some felt strips in the problem areas.

I thought at some point on here someone had mentioned the noise they were hearing was their engine cover vibrating.....once they drilled a small hole, and tied it back with a Zip Tie...the issue went away....

I know I have this problem on my truck as it sounds like a helicopter is flying overhead when I am at low speeds, and in V4 Mode....just haven't taken the time to investigate yet...

Yes it was me, at about the same speed before going into V8 mode. I found the engine cover was vibrating against the dipstick tube and wire harness. I drilled 2 little holes and secured it down several thousand miles ago and the noise has never returned.

I checked the wire around the dipstick and it is not that. would you be willing to give an explanation or pics of the fix you did. i would like to try that next

Take the cover off and go for a ride. If the noise is gone I'll show you how I did it. If the noise doesn't go away then it's something else.

I went out and took a couple pics. It's hard to see but the pics show the zip ties and this eliminated the rattle vibration. I simply drilled 2 holes and tightened them dow and the noise is gone. It used to sound like a helicoptor hovering above but now it's quite.
