Is $75 A Rim A Fair Price

I had to have my truck looked at by the dealer today, so I asked the parts guy if he had any rims that I could use for a winter set. Low and behold he comes out with a set of aluminum rims that will fit and they are in great shape. They are almost as nice as what I have (GMC logo and all). He wants $75 per rim, I know its not a steal, but is it fair??

I'm no expert, and it's hard to say without seeing the wheels, but $300 for a set of OEM alloy wheels in decent shape doesn't sound too bad at all.

Yeah, you are probably correct. I am a firm believer of: u get what u pay for. Maybe I'll pick them up and I'll post a pic. Then you can let me know if I was taken for a ride.

I'd just inspect them closely, and use any pitting or any other cosmetic flaws to your advantage and try to haggle with him a little.

I mean, they are winter wheels, they don't need to be immaculate.

What would an aftermarket plain-old steel rim cost?

$75 per aluminum rim doesn't sound that bad to me.

when I picked up steel rims for my '02, they were $75 a piece. But then again, I'm in the expensive North.

Then they'll work and you got a pretty decent deal. I'm looking at doing the same thing myself. The local Chevy dealer has take-offs from time to time that they let slide for 300-400 w/ tires.

So, my next question is if I were to buy a set of winter only tires, what is the best tire that you can recommend from experience. I can read all day long on TIRERACK but its better to hear from someone who has them. Consider the fact that I live in the Northeast and head to VT for skiing. I am not too impressed with the Goodyears I've got on the truck now.

I think you did good on your wheel purchase. I cant help much with tires but I currently have Firestone Destination A/T's. Havent had them long but so far so good. A few snows so far. I am sure someone who runs snow tires in winter will be able to help you out a little more.

thanks for the replies. I did buy the rims.

I just realized that the TPMS wont work with these rims since they don't have the sender on the valve stem. How annoying is the monitor, does it go crazy and flash all the time because I am think about running the rims without the sensors...
