Moraine Ohio Plant Closed Today

Saw on the local news today: The Moraine, Ohio, SUV plant had its last day of production today. VERY close to where I call home.

damn, I feel for those folks. Looks like it was a Envoy plant, from what i could see from the report.

They interviewed a guy that had been there almost 30 years. :jester:

I hate to see that.... what a crying shame.... This will hit Moraine pretty hard.

Dayton is a shitter anyways :jester:

WPAFB is the only thing keeping what there is around (if that makes since) between Cincy and Columbus.

I have to agree, and WPAFP is were I get my paycheck...

The Moraine plant has been a fixture of the local economy since it was a frigidaire plant back in the 60's. They did Truck and Bus, s10 trucks when they began production back in the 80's, s10 blazers and jimmy's, and were most recently building the Trailblazer, etc... line of SUV's.

It's very sad. By the way, I think it is Lorain, not Moraine, but then again, what do I know? :jester:

It's Moraine, Lorain is Northern Ohio and they have their own problems...

Talk about unfortunate

Well for one thing that means the '09 production run of the GMT-360 was an EXTREMELY short one....

Yep,The Trailblazer/Envoy's (GMT360) are done with now.

I also have a friend who works at WPAFB :jester:

This is a real shame. Unfortunately, most of us hear the headlines on the news about the various plant closings but it doesn't really sink in until it hits close to home or we know someone who is affected.

I stand corrected. :D I think they closed the Lorain plant also. That is why I thought it was a typo.

Maybe so... :D .... but the good folks that invested their lives in the Moraine plant aren't (not to be taken as what you were implying in any way, because I am sure you weren't implying it in that way)...

The military base I grew up around, and my dad was stationed at, was deactivated after over 40 years. I witnessed and experienced the base closing. A LOT of local civilians were employed there.

I'll admit it... I cried. That base provided me summer jobs, friends, my FIRST job (pushing carts in the commissary at age 7  ) . Ya really don't know what an impact something like that has on your life.

Again, Moraine, BAD situation, WORST time of year..... it just hits my heart somewhere where there's a similar memory.
