08 Denali Appearance Mods - Help?

Recommended Posts

New to the forum here.

I am a new owner (as of 5 days ago) of a new '08 Red Jewel-Tint Yukon Denali with DVD, Nav, etc.

I recently posted on here looking for help with some performance modifcations. I thought I would do the same as it relates to my questions on a few appearance mods.

Here are my ideas/questions:

> Grill - I would like go with a mesh grill. Any suggestions on the best place/price to get one? Seems like there are a ton of places that sell aftermarket grills - just not sure who is the most reputable, best price, etc.

> HID Lights - Now this totally confuses me. Years ago when I had a Cadillac Escalade (2000), I looked into getting HIDs and it was tremendously expensive and very complicated in terms of wiring, etc. I have read in different posts on this forum (and others) that it might not be as complicated now? Then agian, some people have written about how the lights on the Denali have some sort of eyeball feature that makes it hard to modify? So should I try HIDs? Is it worth it? If not, what are some other suggestions/resources?

> De-Badging - I plan on taking off all of the badges, except for the Denali badges, and adding a Denali badge to the rear gate (good suggestion from iStargazer). Any other suggestions?

> Exterior Mirrors - Bottom 1/2 Chrome - Adding chrome mirror covers, another suggestion from iStargazer. What exactly are these things called? And where is a good place to get them?

> Wheels/Rims & Tires - I would like to add 22' or 24's and go with tires that higher profile than the "rubberband (low profile) style" I have seen on some rides. I am curious if I would have a problem with either size rubbing the wheelwell? Anyone have experience with this? I know lots of guys have gone with 22s, 24s and 26s. Want to make sure I buy the right stuff. Currently looking at BZO Elite, Diablo XLR8, Dvinci Attivo - all with black inserts.

Any other thoughts/suggestions/resources/places to buy stuff?

Thanks!

Don't forget a set of GM wheel well liners to cover the rear wheel wells. IMO it really gives the rear of the truck a finished look.

The bottom half chrome mirrors can be found on Ebay. Usually the price asked will be related to quality and fitment.

Most people beg cheat and steal to get the Denali grille you allready have! Can I call dibs? LOL

Congrats on the truck!

Nice truck and color

The SUV's should have the rear wheel liners as mine does.

I stuck with 20's as opposed to 22's or larger primarily because I occasionally go off road and I didn't want a harsh ride or one that risked rim damage.

I'm on the fence with the chrome mirrors. I'm also on the fence with debadging. Sometimes I really like the clean no-badge look, other times not so much.

I too like the Denali grill.

Welcome and enjoy the ride! Get a tune and it will feel like a new truck. Also make sure you have the most recent trans recal from the dealer. It fixes a wicked delay in downshifting.

Thanks for the replies. I like the grill look without the GMC logo.

BTW, has anyone purchased a HID kit for the 07-08 Denali that they are happy with and that was easy to install? Seems to be a ton of choices out there.

You won't have room to go much larger then stock on the overall diameter of the tires even with a leveling kit. Before you get 22 or 24" wheels swing by a Caddy dealer and drive an Escalade with the factory 22s, then drive one with the smaller wheels options...I think you'll find that the 22s completely ruin the ride of a very nice riding truck.

    • Ok that confirms the extra quart theme they are still going with which must mean they have noted some initial use more so then some engines and probably the bigger factor in all of this probably isn't the engine so much as its the insane distance or OLM that lulls a lot of the driving public into driving their new vehicle off the lot and not even doing one short interval oil change because the manufacturer doesn't say different and if the dealer follows that logic as well. Selling the rarely needing to be serviced concept seems to go over well with the public that wants to get away with as little as possible for dollars spent on the vehicles maintenance and I bet there are 3.0 engines just like other vehicles out there that never have their oil checked by the owner which goes back to why they probably felt the need to add that extra quart to avoid a costly theme.    Speaking of cutting filters open, it was probably over two years ago now that a youtuber who buys vehicles to do longer term reviews and pulls a fifth wheel through the mountains of Colorado on summer trips and that becomes part of the testing. Anyway he had a GM HD with the 6.6 gas and a Ford 250 with the 7.3 gas at the same time and of no surprise the Ford had more power etc but somewhere along the way in the few thousand miles he put on the truck, he changed the oil and was seeing glitter and cut open the filter and yeah, things were not looking spectacular. The truck about that time or soon after seemed down on power compared to what it had been and then threw some engine code, I expect the cam/lifters were failing and so he brought the truck back to the dealer and made some deal to get out of it as he knew it would sit for months waiting on a new engine as they were so backlogged at the time. He kept the GM for some time after that using it exclusively until he sold it after buying his next vehicle to do a review on. Definitely the filter can tell a story when things are starting to go sideways, but it would be a sickening feeling to cut it open and be faced with an ugly mess like that and be running a magnet through the pleats and the oil on the dirty side of the filter and see all the fines sticking to the magnet.    The dealer may have some ideas based on experience as to where that coolant smell is coming from, I would imagine if they can't find it but its smelling they would put dye in it to they could give it a run cycle and use the black light to see where it pops up, if its a hose connection, water pump, rad or even a head gasket etc.
    • Good looking truck, suspensionmaxx looks like a solid option
    • Thanks for the info, im considering a leveling kit or 4" lift kit.
    • charm.li (website) has the vehicle-specific diagnostic procedure for that code, you can use to find what the cause of it is.
    • It’s at the point of amusement. I’m retired I have time. It’s fun seeing people try to convince me I’m using oil. I’m buying oil at the prescribed time. It gets drained and new goes in. Do I add in between, no. My oil doesn’t even get dirty in 5k miles. I don’t even see any drop on the stick. I check in the same place. All is well.
