I too had it for a year when I bought the truck. Didn't use it once for anything in that year so there was no way I was gonna spend that kind of $$ for it :dunno:

On the truck, I have never used it, however, on my wife's Saturn, we have used a couple of times, once in an emergency when she got side swiped by some idiot. The police responded and it was all good. But we paid $15.00/month for hers, and it is kinda nice to have it there, but enough to justify it? Who knows? But then all it takes is needing it, and I mean really needing it, and it will be unavailable because I chose to not subscribe that makes me wonder if I should keep it.

I personally don't think it should be disabled when you don't pay for it. If GM really wanted to make their customers feel safe, then they would offer the "emergency" feature in the event of any crash they'll assist you. Why do I have to pay a monthly fee to hope (or not hope) I get into an accident just so I can use that feature?? :dunno:

I subscribe, never used it in an emergency, which is good I guess.

I do think it is too expensive, but that's with a lot of things. It is a bit like a life vest. It is always too expensive when you don't need it, but when you do...

And because Onstar is not only for emergency, I descided to renew my subscription.

I have had it since I bought my OnStar equipped Cadillac in the spring of 2006. I have the Directions and Connections plan... not the basic plan. I use it quite often.

I don't keep it just for the emergency features even though that feature IS nice to have if you ever need it. I have only used THAT feature one time.. on a trip.. to report a drunk driver.

Darling Wife and I travel a lot, to parts of the country we are not familiar with.

I do use it a lot when we are traveling. They are very helpful in finding you a motel for the night or finding you a place to eat when you are in a strange town and don't know where anything is.

An example of how handy it is.....This past Friday, I was at my brothers house in Lufkin TX. We needed to take his motorcycle to the shop for some service work. It was about 25 miles, one way. He did not have the phone number to see if they were open. He called information on his cell phone... could not get the number..for some reason. I walked over to the car...pushed the OnStar button and had the number in about a minute. They were open and I rode the bike and he followed me in his truck...a GMC of course. :dunno:

It really hurt the ole wallet when I renewed for three years, but you get a little better rate that way and after some POINTED DISCUSSION about if I was gonna renew or just cancel, they gave me an extra six months (or 8 months..I forget) and an extra 300 minutes on the phone.

If my next vehicle has OnStar... I will probably keep it when the free trial is up... if I can afford it.

I've got it...Don't use it all that much...It is nice to know its there if need be....I figure the $199 a Year is a Small Price to Pay if you Ever Did Need It(Door Unlocks, Vehicle Diagnositcs which kind of let me know whats going on before I get there, and Incase there was ever an accident)...and I enjoy the Monthly Emails....I'll be keeping it yet again when it comes due in March.

I forgot about the door unlocks. :dunno::lol:

I have used THAT two times.

Considering what it costs to have a locksmith come out to you, that probably paid for one year of service right there.

Thats not even counting the aggravation of first, FINDING ONE, and then the time you spend waiting on him.

yeah around here it costs $75 bucks or so...then you have to hope the guy dosen't tear anything up! I like the effortlessness of just calling in and hearing the doors unlock....(not that I lock my keys in all that often, but it does happen)

OnStar is not cheap after the first free year, but...

It's faster hands down in an emergency situation than my cell phone.

Three times in 3 years for the emergency services for me. Once it dialed on it's own in my air bag deployed crash, another time I tried cell phone first with no luck and then OnStar. GPS was accurate all three times

Other than that I don't even remember what services are offered with it :dunno:

I've had it on a couple of trucks (for the free periods) and the only time I ever used it was to push the button and scream I'M THE GODDAMNED BATMAN! And then hang up.
