Cool. Thanks for the detailed update. I've never had to remove the CMS, but if I ever do, now I know where to come for help.

So I got a used set of rails off ebay but when I got it it was missing 5 of the toggles and 2 of the bolts. I broke down and ordered the toggles from GM because I figured I wasn't going to have much luck finding them anywhere else (gmpartsdirect was the same price after shipping). However I would like to try and match the body bolts that come with the system but GM wants $8 per bolt. Does anyone know what size these are and a good source for body bolts?

Until then I am just using regular hex heads but I would like everything to match.

I'm trying to buy a set off ebay right now. Just woundering if I buy an long bed set would I be able to trim the side pieces to work on a standard bed. Not looking to hack it up it just seems everything is kind of adjustable.

Thanks in advance

The bolt holes won't line up on the sides (the front piece should be the same).

I bought the cms and now have a few questions. The bed liner I have isnt for the system. What type of hole do I need to make? Does it have to be as big as the plates or just enough for the bolt assy. to go through. I'm going to pull out the liner to make the holes but could use a little insight on how the need to sit on the wall...

Thanks JTS

The bed liner will have to go as it will be in the way. You can try cutting it but that will be a huge trial and error project and chances are you will end up cutting to much away so that the liner will not fit snugly as it should. Cutting just the holes won't work, you have to trim away a lot of the liner or it will never go back in. GM has a liner especially for the CMS but you should only put it in after installing the CMS. I made the mistake of thinking it would be easier if I installed the GM liner first then the CMS but as it turned out the liner got in the way of installing the rails and turned a 15 m in job in several hours wresting with the hard plastic liner to clear the rails.

Buy the ones from GM, these are specialty bolts and you won't find anything close to matching with the right thread + they have a special head that holds the torgue.

I ended up just buying normal bolts and using a washer. There is nothing special about the threads on these bolts and I just put them in the forward most hole and the end caps cover them up.

following your old post on the cargo management system. i've installed rails and tool box wothout any problem. but the rear ladder rack doesn't slide onto the rails after they are installed. the high part of the box sheetmetal gets in the way of sliding the ladder rack bracket onto the cms rail. i could remove the rail, mount the ladder rack and then reinstall the rail, but that doesn't seem how it should work. don't know if you have the ladder rack, but any ideas?

I'll answer my own post. I've installed mine and figured it all out. Here it is for anybody else that may need it.

Just take a small flat screw driver and pry under one side and pop out the little plastic plugs in the bed (be sure to do before getting bed liner sprayed if doing that)they will pop out. If you let them spray over them they will be really hard to get out in not impossible.

The black plastic part, (holds the toggle that the bolt goes thru). You put the toggle in the open end of the black plastic part (it clicks in), then you slide the black plastic part in the slot on the back of the rail. slide the bolt thru the rail into the toggle and tighten enough to get the bolt thru it. Install all three on each rail. (Make sure you look on the back of the 2 side rails to find the "FWD" with arrow pointing to which way is FWD and install the side rail accordingly) 1. Install the across bed/cab back rail first by squeezing the toggle and installing it thru the hole in the bed (do all three before tightening). Then tighten them. (As you tighten it will get tight then it will feel like it is stripped, just keep tightening as the toggle has come out of where it was clipped in the black plastic part and is moving/sliding to allow it to tighten). If you have to remove a rail you loosen the bolt and the toggle will slide back in the black plastic part untill it clips back in to the end of it allowing you to unscrew the bolt out and remove the bolt. Then you slide the rail off the black plastic part and it's holding the toggle to keep it from falling down into the body. You then can collapse/compress one side of the toggle to extract it from the bed side.

Hope this explains it good enough for you. When you install the side rails look at the one closest to the cab that is in the stake pocket on each side and you can see how it works. Install the cab/across bed rail first. Just take your time it's really pretty easy and I didn't have any instructions. I just sat down and started putting parts together until I figured it all out. Mine came to me completely apart along with all the tool boxes and the overhead ladder racks. Lots of loose parts.

Need anymore help PM me.

    • You need a better code reader/scanner.  You are missing codes.  Did the dealer give you a copy of the SAVI scan from that visit?     If the fluid hasn't been changed, change it.  Shudder will likely go away.
    • TLDR to my other post...   Hard. Pass.  Too many what ifs.     Are you set on a 3.0 Duramax?  Have you considered anything not GM just in case?  If you don't have to have a pickup, lots of other options for $27,000 out there.
    • I see some red flags.   - No mention in the Carfax if the oil pump belt was changed.  LM2s had a 150,000mi service interval, and its got 164,245mi on it.  So right out the gate it needs about $3000-3500 for that to be done before driving it another 150,000mi.  Belt is at the rear of the engine.     - If something happens to the transmission valve body, the special coverage is expired by mileage.  That will likely be an out of pocket expense, with zero or near zero GM participation if something happened even though its in by time.   - 2020 LM2s seem to need timing chains after 80,000mi at some point.  They fixed this end of 2020/starting 2021 model year engines.  They will usually set a P0016 I think?  There is another $8000-10,000 if it needs a chain.  The main chain is at the back, secondary at the front so the pump belt would be done at the same time if it needed chains.     - Long oil change intervals.  7,000-8,000mi on average, probably close to 0% or perhaps to or beyond 0% on the OLM.  Lots of them not at the dealer which makes me wonder how much of the oil ran through that truck was the proper Dexos D rated 0w20 oil and not just gas engine 0w20, which is not the same at all.     - Long fuel filter changes, again likely taking the fuel filter life to 0% or more.  First one went 28,603, second was done 43,094 miles later at 71,697, from there another 46,452mi to 118,149mi, and then the most recent one 37,026mi later at 155,175mi.  So counting its original fuel filter, its had only 4 fuel filters on it.  No bueno IMO.         Good news?    - It has had only two warranty trips to the dealer.  The first free service (end of December 2020 on the Carfax), and the transmission reprogram recall (end of August 2025 on the Carfax).     - Truck did a LOT of moving, so that might explain the lack of emissions related repairs like bad NOX sensors, bad exhaust temp sensors, bad glow plugs, etc.         The "emissions system checked" could just be how something was flagged for Carfax.  GM dealers have to do SAVI reports for warranty repair orders so they scan the truck.  So its possible that is there for that?
    • Thank you, @Z45!   NOTE - No all repair shop/Dealers reports to Carfax   That is my main concern.  The CARFAX looks way too clean for a 6 year old anything with 164,245 miles.  Even something known for reliability (like many Toyotas) typically has a lot more replaced, like a Nav screen, interior trim, shock/strut, or brake pads.  And surely the last set of tires (installed at ~58k miles) would be bald unless those were all highway miles.   I'm tempted to pay a local dealer to look up the VIN, but am not sure if that will be worthwhile.  Last time I did this, it was 100% useless, and I felt scammed - they noted the bumper was replaced years ago and that's it.  A 5-year old could spot the accident damage, even though nothing was on the CARFAX.   After giving the dealer a call, the truck may have a hard shift, but they have to verify with their mechanic if that's even a concern.  And I've test driven about a dozen of these now, many near Chicago, and half the trucks shift hard/odd at all throttle positions.  The ones with aftermarket lifts/larger tires shift terrible, and 3 stock trucks shifted so violently I thought the transmission valve body was going out.   At this point I'm conflicted, as I need a vehicle, and am coming up short locally.  Northern trucks in this price range tend to have either multiple owners, a lot of mods (lifts/oversized tires without re-gearing), and are generally in rougher shape.   If this truck showed up in your neighborhood for $27k and you had to purchase it sight-unseen, with the possibility of needing a 10L80 rebuild, torque converter, or rear end - would you do it?  I'm convinced most of the 10L80 trucks I test drove are broken, they can't all shift so bad, with massive flares/slipping/lurching and mis-matched downshifts like a teen driver learning stick.
    • From the spy shots, the front end does look like it's borrowing some styling cues from the Canyon. I'm more interested in the powertrain news than the screens though. If the 3.0 diesel survives into the next generation, that alone will keep a lot of current owners interested.
