2007 Silverado Speaker And Amplifier Installation

I've started the installation of my new system in my truck. I am moving pretty slow on it, I want to do the best job I can. I being the operative word.

I will try to post some pictures as I go.

I will be keeping the factory head unit, attempting to retain Onstar, signal indicators, and warning chimes while still amplifing the music.

I decided on the Infinity Reference 6022I speakers 4 of them, 1 for each door, and powering them through an Alpine MRP-F300 amplifier.

If you have anything against my equipment choices, you should have spoke up here.

I have the rear door speakers installed as of last night.

For an update, to start I removed the rear seat, awkward and large, no real problem. Removed the three panels on each rear door, along with the paper/foam liner. Removed the panel under the rear window. Removed the C-Pillar panels. Removed the rear door sill plates. Doing all this provided access to the wiring harnesses for running my new speaker wire. The easiest way to get the rear speaker wires ran was disnonnecting the rear door wire harness inside the trucks C-Pillar and holding it straight out side the truck to feed the wire through, into the door. This was frustratingly time consuming but not difficult.

I think my next phase will be integrating the Metra GMOS-LAN-01 into the system and running wires to/from the amplifier.

Do you plan to use Dynamat? I've found that using that only improves SQ greatly. It is a pain, but well worth it, in my opinion anyway....

I look foward to reading what you do and how you are able to continue using the factory HU. I would like to do the same thing.

My main recommendation would be to install the amp below the passenger seat instead of the back wall. This is as long as its a manually operated seat and not automatically adjustable. I put mine there so i can access the controls at all times and if something ever happens its not a total PITA to get to and see whats up. Plus it gets way more airflow to run cooler.

Update:

I mounted my amp on a bracket against the backwall. I think if I screwed it to the back wall I'd end up going right through the truck, having screws poking outside. I was going to go under the passenger seat, but it was too lumpy for a good mounting point, plus it was a tight fit.

No dynamat, if I decide to put some material in there, I will use carpet pad, I have a cheap source (free), plus I think it will serve the purpose similarly. Its only a little ghetto.

I have the wire harness all rebuilt, to integrate the GMOS-LAN-01, and my Preipheral PXAMG, tedious tapping thats about it. Surprisingly it all still works. Have a few kinks to work out, but no biggy.

I have 1 front door speaker installed, driver side. Power and ground are ran to the amp. Speaker inputs are ran to the amp. I had the amp turn on ran from the Metra GMOS-LAN-01, but it for some reason is not working. I plan to tap some theoretical accesory wires under the dash that will run the amp with R.A.P. items. Also need to add some spacers behind the front speakers, the window hits them because they sit too deep.

Current issues to work out:

Backlighting flickers, crummy peripheral wiring harness won't stay plugged into the factory raido.

Window hits the front door speakers, needs some spacers, also a rattle in there needs fixed.

Remote amp turn on needs worked out.

Still need to connect the Metra GMOS-LAN-01 to front speakers.

Overall I like how things are going. I am disappointed in the Metra piece, It will only play turn signals with an additional piece, that I don't have. The chimes are far hokier than factory, the amp turn on signal doesn't work.

Any other questions?

I did manage to fire up the three installed speaker and have them play music.

GAWD! Its loud, it hurts, and I LIKE IT! I can use a factory preset equalizer instead of the goofy manual one.

I replaced the Peripheral harness and that fixed my back lighting problem.

I got front speakers moved out from the door panel, no more window interferace.

Amp turn on is working due to incorrectly labeled wire in the Metra harness.

Chimes and Onstar both work.

I removed the factory A-pillar tweeters, it was too much...

About ready to put the interior panels back in along with rear seats.

I still want to do some sound deadening around the door panel to speaker area, hopefully it will clean the bass up a bit.

when you use that metra interface, does the factory H/U still limit the bass output at higher volumes?

I want to do this same thing but add a sub. I dont want the bass to be super loud at low volume and then go away when i turn it up.

Nice... How difficult was it removing the door panels? I looked at the rears last night, looks pretty simple (atleast the upper half does)

I haven't noticed this. I do notice that different albums are mixed very differently, so some songs I use a different equalizer preset. Volume does seem to tweak the sound equalizing, but I wouldn't say the bass is being limited.

I found installing two amps in my Sierra to be super easy, since I just removed the crappy Bose sub in the center console and used the newly opened space to mount all the electronics (sans a cap which went behind the rear seats). Worked great!

I did infinity reference and two shallow-mount fosgate p3's under the seats. Very low profile, low maintenance, and well dyno'd so nobody even knows I have aftermarket audio.

I intended to take some pictures, but didn't really find anythnig to take a picture of. Taking everything apart was fairly straight forward, grab and pull firmly, if you need more detail I can provide it.
