99 Gmc Engine Swap

Hi, I have a 1999 GMC Sierra 1500, it has a 305 v8 with a 700r4 Tranny (4wd). Looking to swap for a 1988-1992 350 TBI, however it was hooked up to a 2wd Tranny. So, I was wondering if that "year" engine will fit on my Truck, and if it will hook up to my 4wd Tranny.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Are you sure you have a 5.0L with a 700r tranny? I wasn't aware that combo was still available in '99.Looks more like an '89 combo.Can you post a pic of your truck?

If you had a 305, I believe any 350 (not the LS types, I dunno about them) will bolt to the 305s transmission.

I bought this truck a few years ago, off the lot. There's no paperwork stating that this is the original motor or not, so when we punch up anything to do with a '99, nothing comes up saying that I have a 305, but my vin number says that it's an 'm' code, which is a 305. Most of the time I have to put up a '98 in order to find stuff for my truck.

So I decided I want to swap for a 350, but all the ones I find are either "older" or from 2wd trucks. Was just wondering if they'd still hook up to my Tranny.

Ex/ found a 350, from a 2wd tranny, its from an 88-92 truck though... (but it is a tbi motor)

Again, the 350 engine of the yrs you are looking at will bolt up. I think 283, 302, 305, 327, 350, and 400 smallblocks all have the same rear bolt pattern.

Will it hook up to the tranny? Yes

You are going to have some computer issues though going with a pre 1996 engine. If you want an easy bolt-in, you need to find a 1996-1999 vortec style engine. Along with being TBI, the heads and intake are different on the motors you are looking at.
