Good Price Or Can I Do Better?

figured i would ask everyone's opinion on this. i stopped by the local GMC dealer to test drive a 2009 Sierra since i hadnt driven any of the new body style trucks since their introduction in 2007. i was VERY impressed and now see what all the raves are about on here and why people love them so much! i didnt think my 2004 Silverado was a p.o.s until i test drove this truck today.haha anyways, it was a 09 steel gray metalic extended cab Z71(4x4 to clarify since Z71's come in 2wd now also) and it had the light colored leather seats with the fold down console. no wood grain dash or anything. basically your SLE package with a few upgrades on it. sticker was $35,710 and he gave me a price of $28,922(this includes sales tax). i didn't have my truck with me so theres no telling what he would give me on trade-in. could i do a little better you think, or is this about the norm for what they're selling for right now? i'd probably just wait and see what GM does in the near future but if theres a deal to be had and i get a decent trade in then i might just come home with a new truck :(

heres the VIN number if anyone wants to check it out

It seems like you could find a LTZ truck for that much if you looked around.. :(

Maybe thats just with my GM discount but I really didnt think that mattered these days...

seems like a good price generally speaking, but your local market plays a pretty big factor in pricing. shop around a bit at other local GM dealerships and see if the price on this truck seems comparable to others.

thanks for the replies! yeah, i havent really been shopping around just looking and seeing what was out there. been keeping my eyes open for any left over 08's and low and behold i've found two that are still on dealers lots! i'm in South Carolina by the way. one is a regular cab red GMC Z71 short bed(not too fond of red or regular cab but if the price is right then i'd just have to get over that) and a Silverado crew cab 4x4 Hd with the 6.0 in it. i didnt think the price was bad on the truck i test drove, but it didnt strike me as jaw dropping. he just threw out some incentives that havent been mentioned on here($2,000 off if financed through a credit union and $1,500 for GM loyalty)

You might be able to find one cheaper. How does the sales tx get incl.I have to pay sales tx when I get tags for mine and only pay tx on the differance with the trade in.

take it from me, don't buy a color you figure you'll 'learn to like'. i bought a bright red Tacoma back when i was in college under the assumption i'd grow to like it. i hated the color of that damn thing till the day i sold it. i would imagine same goes for cab configuration.

:( i know there's a general hatred here for all things toyota, but i've owned several toyota pickups and all of them have been rock solid. i have absolutely nothing bad to say about them.

In most states including mine, you pay sales tax at the time of purchase and also do the tags then also. And here its tax on the difference, but we pay tax on any rebates.

If that price is out the door, I don't think it sounds like a bad deal. I would look around to see what the market is in your area, but around here thats pretty good.

That sucks you guys have to pay tax on the rebates.I could see that if you took the rebate in cash but not putting it down on the truck. It just changes what you pay for the truck. Kind of like paper money.
