Gmt-900 Tailgate Seal?

Looking for some better methods of sealing the tailgate, the way I've done mine doesn't seem to be the best, anyone have any success? The rear of the bed doesn't lend itself to sealing very well. Pics would be helpful. Also what is everyone using to seal up the square box rail holes? Nope no bed rails, not going to happen.

What was your method? The only thing I can think of would be putting some weatherstripping on there.

Also, you can get bed caps w/o the stake pocket holes

Good topic. I've never found a complete kit that was specific to a model. I sealed up my 99 GMT800 last summer after putting a set of bed drawers in the bed under my SnugTop shell. I went to HomeD and bough a 1" rubber blade seal that has a strip of metal to retain it. I attached the blade to the bed behind the bumper and had the blade contact the bottom of the tailgate. On the inside, I attached the metal along the inside of the bed so the blade contacts the tailgate. It's functional but not all that pleasing to the eye. But it's an old truck and I'm not that particular about the looks on that one. For my new truck, I'd welcome a good kitted system. I'll try to take some pics of my installation.

I like the my weatherstripping but you have to slam the tailgate or the first bump opens it. It would be nice to have a thinner weatherstripping gasket.

I got that TrailSeal kit free with my Lorado cover from them. Seems to be working pretty good. In the pics they show a seal kit used on the front of the box....didn't see what that would seal though, so seems pointless.

EDIT: I have Line-X so maybe it does seal something when you don't have a liner.

Some of the GMT900s have a large gap going around the front bed wall. A box liner covers it, and most of the Line-Xed trucks I've seen are sealed because the sprayed filled the gap. The front seal is for owners that use just a rubber mat or nothing at all. Still the worse truck bed gaps I've seen to date was on a 2007 F-150, you could daylight coming from the floor!

Hey thanks, I had the rear trailseal weatherstripping and it didn't seem to work well. Now I see this new updated kit should make it better. I was just going to silicone the front seam, but I don't really like the way that looks after time. Just called a local place they are $44, he hadn't heard of them either, called the company and ordered one up for me. Thanks again.

The problem I ran into with self-adhesive weatherstrips was that the adhesive let loose after it got cold and wet several times.

I have had mine on for only a month of so, but its sticking to Line-x and seems pretty secure.

Agri-cover makes a bed seal kit for the GMT900. I've installed a few of these in some of my customers trucks and they've worked well. Check them out here: http://www.agricover.com/index.php/products/category/C156/

Do they make a tailgate seal specific for the GMT900? I bought one of their tailgate seals right after I got my truck and it wouldn't seal the gap at the top of the sides where the tailgate and bed sides meet. It seems to be larger than normal gap.

Not seeing it. When I go to the website, I see a "kit" for the GMT900, but when ordering just the tailgate seal, there is no mention of vehicle specific tailgate seal. Maybe the kit has a different tailgate seal for the GMT900.

I work for ACI (Agri-Cover, Inc.) and wanted to clear this up for you. The regular TrailSeal Gasket is for sealing up the tailgate of any truck model. It seals gaps around the perimeter of the tailgate only. You can get more info on our website by clicking here or buy it direct for $29 on our website.

However, our TrailSeal Total Bed Seal Kit is made to seal manufacturer gaps and holes in 2007-2009 Chevy/GMC New Body truck beds ONLY. That's the only truck model it will work with at this time. Here's what comes in the kit:front and rear "L" shaped seals, foam wedges, clear seal stickers, and TrailSeal® Tailgate Gaskets.

• Works with tonneaus, toppers and lids

• Keeps your cargo clean and dry

• Quick and easy to install

• Keeps water, snow and dust out of your truck bed

You can read more about the kit here or buy it direct for $39.95 on our website.

Hopefully this helps clear up your questions on the difference between the two products and whether it will work for you. Also, you can always look for a good deal on these products by getting it from your local dealer. Click here to search for your local dealer now. If I can help with anything else on this topic please let me know.

Thanks,

Katie

Thanks Katie. So basically the TrailSeal Gasket is a different shape than the tailgate gasket in the TrailSeal Total Bed Seal kit. That makes sense to me. I guess it's time to order me one.
