Stereo Won't Give My Cd Back

Recommended Posts

Posted

My 2004 Silverado has the CD/Cassette/AM/FM stereo radio in it and just recently refuses to eject the CD. All I hear is a clicking sound coming from the unit. I suspect there is some small plastic part/gear broken.

Any comments on what I might do to fix this problem? I imagine getting the unit repaired is costly.

Thanks for any help.

Does it come out just a little bit then goes back in? Or does it not show itself at all? If it comes out a little bit, you can take a knife or something and push down on the top when you try to eject it, and it should come out.

No, it doesn't show itself at all, the unit just clicks for about 15 seconds then displays "check CD".

OK, so if I buy a used deck at a salvage yard or off Ebay, is there anything special I will have to know or do?

i wouldn't think there is anything special you would have to do.. i haven't messed with car stereos too much since my high school years but if you get a factory radio just like the one in your dash, it should have a wiring harnes you can unplug and just plug the new one into. install it and put the dash back together.

What about the theft protection? Some vendors on Ebay say it has to be programmed to the truck with a TechII scanner. What's that all about?

i would be lying if i told you i knew anything about that either. wish i could help you but i haven't had the oportunity to work on one of those. the closest thing i could tell you is that i have a 97 lumina with theftlock on it and once it got locked up and i didn't know the code... i bought the instructions to change the code off of ebay for 5 bucks and it's been ok ever since.

that prob doesn't have anything to do with your situation though.

I've had that once, very annoying. I managed to eject the cd by prying a piece of thin carton in the opening and wiggling it while pushing the eject button. The extra pressure made it pop out. Be carefull though, you don't want to damage the insides.
