Tire Selection For My Truck

I see other tire posts, but I didn’t want to highjack there thread. I was looking to get the Michelins because I plan on having this truck for another 5yrs. I’m sure you guys have your opinions on what brand to buy, and I’d like to hear them so FIRE AWAY. even though my mind is set on the Michelins. Also could you guys reinforce the tire size for my truck? I was hoping to get 75’s but I don’t see them on the Michelin web page, just 70’s, the web page and the existing tires read P265/70R17 113S. Lots of different comments on tires. Just to give you a breakdown of what people have said. DiscountTireDirect is almost your best bet, or even TireRack.

I am still looking around for my tires but discount tire direct had great reviews to help me on my decision.

Currently I am probably going for the Cooper Zeons LTZ.

It's kind of hard for us to recommend tires for you without know what kind of tire you want. If you want an A/T, look into the Nitto Terra Grappler, BFG All Terrain K/O, or the Cooper Zeon LTZ.

If you value long wear life above other attributes, the Michelin will likely give you that. I had some on a light truck and they lasted longer than I had the truck. Wet performance was just mediocre. Dry performance was good. Off road wasn't on the list of duties for my truck as it was a 2wd and the Michelins I had were street tires.

I had 2 differant sets of BFG that went 70,000 miles. One seyt was 10plys which you don;t need and the other was LT. I hope they make them for this truck when its time for a set.

For street tires, I agree, most don't need a 10 ply rated tire...unless you are towing or hauling heavy loads. That's what they're made for. Also, I have had lesser rated tires get punctures in droves while off road driving from brush roots, rocks and such. So, my 4x4s will always get 10 ply rated tires, even my 1/2 ton pickup.

A guy I work with got almost 70k on a set of BFG on his 2001 Chevy 4x4.

Oh I didn't even know you was running 10ply. I was just saying what I had , and one set was 10ply and that he wouldn't need 10 ply with a 1500. I had the 10 ply on a 2500 dodge cummins with a straight axle in the front. Now it would corner like a dream with the 10ply but you would feel every crack in the road. They wouldn't feel that rough on these chevys.

I was getting 65,000 miles out of the old Firestone Wilderness A/T 10 ply tires on my 99 GMC 2500. Went thru 3 sets and would have them today if they still made them. But they dropped or changed them to the Destination series. The Destination A/T has very tame street-type tread pattern, so I went with the Destination M/T. So far, they appear to be wearing well with about 20,000 miles on them.

But to your original question... im a big fan of the Cooper Zeon LTZ's. After that my next choice would be Toyo ATs

My dad had a set of the Michelin LTX A/T's that went for 105,000 miles and still had legal tread. This was on a 95 suburban too. I have right around 70,000 on my LTX A/T's that are on my truck and they still have a lot of tread left. My brother has the new LTX A/T2's and they have been very good. Hasn't had them long enough to learn anything about tread wear though. I wouldn't buy anything else. Just my 2 cents.
