The made in Australia Holden Caprice is very popular in the Middle East and one running SOB. Rear wheel drive, huge leg room in the rear, very fast. 350 small blocks. I think they cost around 25K fully decked out. Truly a sleeper. Sorry for the poor quality picture.

Here is what a modern Holden Caprice looks like. Why the hell don't we have one here at Chevy?

By the way. The Holden Commodore is basically the same as the Pontiac G8 (with obvious trim differences) but the Caprice is a different (and larger) car.

Don't believe everything you read on Wikipedia. They might be built on the same basic platform architecture but they are a much bigger and different vehicle (even longer wheelbase) unlike the Commodore and G8 which are basically just twins with trim restyles.

It is the same platform as the G8. See this tread by Sand Man. He was at the dealer ship last week I believe. Looks just like the Commodore and the G8. I've also heard that they were going to either bring back the caprice off this platform or put the Impala nameplate on it instead.

Believe whatever you like I guess but here are specs right from Holden.

Commodore is 4894mm (192.8 inches)in length and has a 2915mm (114.8 inch) wheelbase

Caprice is 5160mm (203.3 inches) in length and has a 3009mm (118.6 inch) wheelbase.

Weight, capacities, interior room, sheetmetal... all different.

They may be designed using the same platform but are very different cars.

I think both are damn good looking cars. Why is it that GM's best looking stuff is either in Europe or Australia?

Cobalt, Malibu, Impala, Cavalier... WTF? At least until the very recent models of these cars, they were HORRIBLY styled cars and poorly executed. No wonder the Japanese and Germans spanked them.

The latest Malibu is bad ass. It looks like it came from a different carmaker. Body lines and seams actually line up. It's artful even. New Cadillacs, Pontiac's G6 and G8... all much better executions of what people will buy instead of an import. I just wish American carmakers would not let foreign makers spank them for 20 years before reacting just as the market is taking a giant shit...

I'm going to have to side with svensk on this; it has the same platform, engine, and driveline (although the Caprice doesn't have all of the engines and transmissions) as the Commodore. Essentially, it's just a different body on an extended version of the same frame. It's like saying the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon XL are much different vehicles just because the Yukon XL is longer and styled a little differently than the Tahoe. Okay, the bodies are more different than that, but you should understand what I'm saying.

In the response to the original post, the Commodore (or G8 as we know it) is much better in the performance aspect as you seem to be interested in. It's smaller/lighter, has more engine choices, and has two six-speed manuals to choose from (the Caprice has none).
