Nbs Corrosion Protection?

I was wondering how GM battles corrosion for the new trucks. It looks as though there are access plugs on the backside of the rocker panel but I'm not sure if the factory does anything to help prevent rust. It also looks as though there is plenty of space for dirt and moisture to get in over the rear wheels between the outer body and the inner fender. Has the last generation of trucks experienced rust here??

When my father bought a 1990 ford pickup he drove it immediately to my garage where we jacked it up and took out all the lights, removed the door panels, inner fenders etc and undercoated the entire truck thoroughly with a waxy undercoating from Eastwood. The truck rusted just as any other Ford of the same vintage did. In other words, we accomplished nothing. For my new truck, I'm thinking of using an oil or grease. I'm basing this on older cars that I've restored. Wherever there was grease or oil deposits, the metal was shiny, sometimes with complete rot around it.

up here in Canada we get an iol undercoating ...it usually costs about 100 bucks and they drill some holes into your doors and sills...they inject oil into these parts and then cap them off with rubber access doors...they also spray the whole underside with oil aswell ...it does a very good job and many ppl up here do it...the first thing i do after and undercoating is drive down a dusty dirty road to coat the oil in dust so that it stays on really well..

also they sell these magnetic rust protectors ...apparently they work ...ive never tried them..

The only vehicles my Dad had that ever rusted "were" the ones he had undercoated/rustproofed,all the ones he had that wasn't never rusted!!

i believe that cleaning the under carriage is the best way but when you live through harsh winters its impossible...obviously its not an issue in some of the climates you guys live in ...ie cali, texas... i wish i never had to see snow again...lol

Rich - Please correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't GM advise against any aftermarket undercoating?

I am not rich, but GM does have that stance alone with the sheetmetal as well...
