Need Help. I want to put BFG's All Terrian T/A KO on a 06 2500HD. I dont know what size would fit to replace the old LT245/75R16's without having to do any mods. Here are the sizes I'm trying to decide between, 265/75R16 and 285/75R16.

Thanks

Both sizes will fit. 265/75/16 is an easy choice because it will require no mods or maybe just a slight turn on the front torsion bar. 285's will require torsion bar adjustments and in some cases slight trimming. Torsion bar adjustment is very easy and can be accomplished in just a few minutes with a socket wrench so don't be concerned about it. The only problem with too much adjustment is you may need an alignment but a turn or two should be OK.

I would make the final decision at the tire dealer. Have them put 265's up beside your truck, then 285's and see which one gives you the look you want.

One of my buds put 285's on his CC 2500HD Duramax. He loves it. He said it makes his truck look more like "a truck". The installer adjusted his t-bars almost all the way. His truck rides much rougher, and the outside edge of his front tire rubs the back of his wheel well at full lock.

He thought the factory tires looked like roller skate wheels on his truck and thinks the look more matches the capability of his truck.

I have the same tire on my truck (e-rated) and have over 50k miles on them with plenty left (about 1/2 tread)

285s will rub in the right conditions bit work with a small amount of trimming as long as you don't go with an aftermarket wheel that sets the tire out further. 285s also change the final drive ratio a fair amount which can alter gas mileage and affect towing. 265s will give you a "better look" without any negatives.

OK now heres my question...my 07 2500HD has the aluminum wheels. 6.5" 16's. can the 265's or even the 285"s mount on the 6.5" rims? I have an 06 3500 at work with 7" steel wheels and it has 265's from the factory. I dont mind a bit of a t bar crank but I dont want to screw the ride up totally either. The 245 16's look rediculious.

My 285 BFGs are mounted on my 6.5" 16" wheels. Apart from the center of the tire that will lose tread faster. I am pretty happy with the look and performance of the 285s. I had 265s on it before the 285s and they still looked small to me.

By all rights, NO! My tire shop would not install 285's on my factory wheels. IIRC BFG 285's require a 7.5" and the 265's a 7" wheel. I went with a 255'85R16. They are the same height (33") as the 285's just not as wide and fit a 6.5" wheel .

Not as "rediculious" as your spelling of the word "ridiculous". :)

But seriously, I agree that 245's look rather skinny on these trucks. Especially in the 16" size.

Like Todd said the 265's are the biggest you want on the stock rims and actually they are too big according to the tire manufacturers. With proper inflation and rotation 265's in the right load range will probably be a safe tire that you can run on for years!

I've been running them on my HD's since '01 (load range E) and there has been no abnormal wear issues. Plus a 265 still looks good....
