I Got My H.i.d.'s Installed!

After doing a lot of homework on whether to upgrade my bulbs or to upgrade to aftermarket HID's, I finally decided to do HID's after seeing Daddy's pictures and post about his upgrade (plus the added fact that he said his are still going strong after a year or so). So I looked up the seller Daddy bought his from on ebay, and ended up purchasing a kit for $56 shipped. They came in yesterday. Even though we've been have cold and rainy weather here lately, I couldn't wait to get them on my Suburban. So I pulled my burban under the carport, dried most of the water off of it and got to work. I ended up removing the entire front grille assembly to mount the ballasts just along side of the headlights. I fouund a good size plast peice protruding from the radiator support to mount them to, so basically the ballast in mounted in between the grille and radiator. Here are a few pics of the install and the lights in action.

Heres where I mounted the passenger side ballast.

And heres a few more of the finished product. By the way, these are the 8000k bulbs, I liked the color of the bulbs when they were picture in the auction on Ebay, but now after the fact they look a tad bit too blue. I kinda wish I would've went with the 6000k's now. Maybe I'll get replacement bulbs in the future. But I still love the upgrade! Now I just need to decide what to do with my "yellow looking" highbeams now.

They are aimed so as they wont be directly pointed at other drivers faces. They point at the road, where they should be.

Great job!

Hoping to put HID's in my truck this spring. Had them in my '02 and really liked them.

I've got the 6,000k on my truck and they are just freakishly bright white. So you went with the correct ones if you wanted a little blue. My last pair were 20,000k which is like the night sky blue lol. After 3 tickets I said forget it. The only good thing I had going was once I had a ticket for them I could drive around for 60 days and laugh at the cops because they couldn't ticket me. Congrats on the install and that's a pretty good price. Just got some for my girlfriends car $35 shipped, back when I got mine they were $120

Where'd you find a kit for $35??? My wife now wants a set for her Altima after seeing how they look on my truck.

Nice, Looks good.

However I am the other 50% that say you need the relay harness.

I have 3 sets on my truck, the other 2 trucks before them and my cars. I have installed over 120 sets in the years (2003-2009). The price is high! but at the shop the customers all have expensive cars so $750 starting price is good all day!

HID pull 30amps of power then they first turn on. Then power down. I have seen burned copper wires, that drop the wire value so there is no 12v at the plug. Many make noises when on. or work great for some time then burn out the boxes. GM trucks (last model) have issues with the passenger HID the wires are ran off the driver side. When the fogs on many truck/cars are each a wire run so plug and play works.

When we order the hid kits it is $7 extra for a relay harness so it is always ordered. I am in no way telling people what to do only helping out. Enjoy

So you think I should put a relay harness on my truck? I'm all for it, its just that so many people say its not needed. And arent the high beams and low beams on the same wiring/fuse? I was also thinking about putting HID's in my high beams as well. If I do that, I will definitely upgrade with a harness and relay off the battery. I also already have my headlights wired up so both highs and lows are on when the high beams are on(did this mod 2 years ago). I know how to make my own harness, just weatherproofing it is the problem. I could just make my own harness with a relay, 10 or 12 guage wire, and bulb sockets. (and a fuseholder of course) But then again, if I could buy a premade harness for under 10 bucks, I'll just do that.
