Tailgate Cover Replacement

I have an 06 1500 that has the tailgate cover with the lip on it. I just got a cap for the truck and I had to remove this piece. The lip does not let the cap close. Is there a replacement piece that does not have the lip that uses the same holes in the tailgate that the factory piece uses?

Just go to a auto parts store and pick up a aftermarket tailgate protector

like the one that comes on the 2500.

 

Just note that ALL gmt-800 tailgates have holes in the top of the gate

under the "whaletail" and near the bottom for the tail screws.

The aftermarket 2500 style one should cover the lower holes depending

on brand. Just measure and trial fit before installation as some aftermarket

brands do not cover the screw holes.

Note that the 2500 tailgates have the screw holes in them anyhoo.

Its just the 2500 tailgate cover just hides them/covers them.

Also note that is why I said to trial fit the new aftermarket cover.

Because some brands are not as long and will not cover the holes.

Found this out the hard way when we did my buds 1/2 ton.

The dealer where I bought my cap replaced mine with the purchase. The new one has no screws, uses 3M adhesive tape.

I'm on my 3rd one. Seems they don't stick that well in certain climates and under certain circumstances.

 

I wish someone made a steel one that screwed on.

X2...Mine is wavy now and sticking out pretty good...I'm definitely considering taking it off and putting a new one on but I load crap over the tailgate all the time so it'd get F-ed up again soon anyways.
