Can't Find Replacement 2001 Silverado Spark Plugs

Was going to replace the spark plugs today in my 2001 Silverado 1500 with a 4.8L. The plugs that came out of it are NGK PZTR5A and also say ACDelco 12567759. I've been to 4 stores (NAPA, Advanced, OReilly's, Sturdevants) and they all look at it like it's a ghost and have never seen it before. I can't believe with all the Silverados on the road they have not seen this plug and don't stock them. Where can I get these plugs or is there a matching replacement?

Also seen that the cross reference for these is an Iridium instead of a platnium. I've read that guys lose power and mileage with Iridium's. Anyone have any suggestions?

ACDelco Part Number 41-985 is the correct ACDelco plug. The one you have is probably platinum, I don't think they put those in anymore. Iridium is the fad of the day (and they do work quite well, mine lasted 100k miles pretty well).

The Delco stock replacements are now iridium and are gapped differently from the factory (.040). Do not change this even though the truck's manual says otherwise.

I just installed Denso Irridium Long Life sparkplugs in my 2006 GMC Sierra 5.3L V8. The gap was 0.040" and don't forget to lightly coat the threads with anti-seize before installing the new plugs. BTW I ordered my plugs from Sparkplugs.com.

you are right. Haynes manual said it's NGK PZTR-5A15 or "equivalent" for your 2001 V8. I guess that NGK PZTR-5A15 is a dinosaur. Anyway, I installed a set of NGK Iridium IX (Part# TR5IX) w/ .040 gap last year. My 2000 5.3 runs very nicely.

Your 01 came from the factory with NGK plugs. NGK helped GM develop the plug for the 5.3 and they used them for a few years. They moved away from NGK in 03 or 04. I would think a good parts guy would know this and easily be able to look up the current NGK offering and recommend them to you. Some may suggest AC plugs which would be just fine. Not picking on the Parts guys you went to but it amazes me how many people work in parts stores today and really are not qualified to do so.

Finally found some spark plugs at partsgeek.com.

Quick shipping and about the same price as local stores.

At least they knew what they were and had them in stock.

Like we said earlier, the reason no place knew what they were was because the new stock plug is the delco iridium. I could walk into O'rielly's near my place and find 3 different plugs that would work in my 5.3.

I put the new plugs in and used the original spark plug wires. They all looked just fine.

Just wondering if there is any advantage to replacing the wires if nothing seems to be misfiring.

If so, what wires to go with?

I just replaced my Iridium plugs with Bosch +2 and Bosch wire set. I have 76,000 on the truck. I would never run plugs to 100,000 but that's just how I roll.

There are a lot of posts on here and different opinions and experiences re: the diff plug types. For me, I noticed better throttle response and better acceleration immediately. I am very happy with this combination thus far.

Where the heck is the coil that has the number stamped on it to tell what wires you need?

I thought the coil was where the wire opposite the plug connects. I have no numbers anywhere.

The wires that are on there now say Packard on the wire and Delphi 627 on the boot.

From what I've seen, there should be a number of either 19005218 or 12558693 on a 2001 Silverado 4.8L.
