What's Up With The Wind?

Ok, do we have any meteorologist's on the forum? I don't know about the rest of you, but for the life of me, I can't remember it ever being this windy "all the time". I know that some of you who live in the plains states are probably used to it, but here not so much. I'm used to 10 - 20 mph wind's all the time, but it seem's like we're alway's having 20-30-40 mph wind's with gust's upward's to 50 mph and above. What gives?

Yeah, it's been quite windy around here as well. Much more than "usual." Stupid wind.

 

Today is actually fairly calm for a change though.

It's always windy in Iowa, and I'm not a meteorologist. In fact, the last hotel I stayed at wasn't even a Holiday Inn Express. I would guess that all weather is cyclical, and in 15 years you'll be wondering why there's no wind anymore.

I've definately had my share of picking up the neighbor's this year. The old folk's, I don't mind helping, that's just my nature. It's the younger generation of lazy asses that piss me off. I think they're afraid the wind might mess up their hair. I normally wouldn't pick 'em up, but they might cause an accident or something.

Yesterday the wind here was ridiculous. Steady 30-40 mph winds and the news said the highest gust was 54mph. Signs blown down and quite a few trees toppled over and took some power lines down with em'. Caused a wole bunch of mess. Everywhere I drove yesterday, I had to hold the wheel with two hands, my truck felt like it was being blown off the road. Today its fairly calm now.

Last night they were topping around 20 mph out of the SE, now they're sustained at about 25 mph out of the west. Wild if you ask me.

Wind and snow. Here in Seattle we never really get any snow worth a damn. This year we got it a couple times and it snowed yesterday and this morning although none of it stuck.

Very active weather pattern, storm systems are blowing through every 2-3 days. The log chain out in the back yard was at 45 degree angle yesterday. Of course, that's what happens when TX blows and KS sucks...
