Mpg Gains After Black Bear Tune Poll

Recommended Posts

Posted

I would like to take a Poll to find out what kind of MPG gains/losses you experienced after your Black Bear Performance tune. When you state your MPG gains or losses, also state which tune you went with and whether you switched grades of fuel after your tune.

For example a reply could look like:

I got the "87 octane" BB tune and it gave me a 2MPG fuel economy boost using 87 octane fuel before and after the tune.

or

I got the "93 octane" BB tune and it gave me a 4MPG fuel economy boost using 93 octane fuel. but I was using 87 octane before the BB tune.

Thanks, Jim

I don't have a truck that got tuned...but Justin did my Cadillac.

Premium is recommended by my owners manual but it states that you can use regular but you may lose some performance or mileage.

I have always ran Premium in it except for a few instances on road trips ...just to test how it ran on Regular.

It runs crappy and loses about 2 to 3 mpg on Regular, even on road trips, so I really can't compare to regular being used on an everyday basis.

Justin tuned it to run on Premium.

I gained about 1.5 to 2 mpg on a recent trip from Fort Worth TX to Florida and back.

The last road trip...last weekend was only a little over 600 miles...but about 2 mpg better than it used to get before being tuned.

My usual speed on the open road..traffic permitting of course...is 80/85.

I will add that I would get the premium tune again, even if I got -0- mpg increase.

It drives so much better and is more responsive in normal driving, that in my opinion, it would be worth the extra cost in fuel of Regular vs Premium.

Thanks all information on this subject is welcome.

Cujo8,

Just finishing up another road trip today.

About 3,000 miles.

Mileage has varied from tank to tank, of course. That is to be expected.

But overall, it seems to be about 1 mpg to 1.5mpg better than before the tune.

But the MPG increase is really not the best part, it the way it runs and performs now.

Just thought I would add the latest info.

The gas stations must be switching over to summer blend or that in combo with 50 degree weather has caused my mileage to spike to record levels for my everyday commute. Been averaging 15.7-16mpg a tank this winter, and I now just went 150 miles on just over a quarter of a tank.

I bet you left the bear at home though. That extra 500lbs. can really hurt your MPG's.

I haven't seen any MPG gains from my BB Tune. Driving the same routes, style, weather conditions, etc. it's about the same.

But those first few tanks after the tune were way down. That Justin is a HACK

6.0 Before 11.5 and after 13 all city. Have not had the opportunity to test it on the highway without 30 foot of camper being towed. So, I dont know what the mpg would be on the highway.
