"ice" In Mirror Temp Display ?

hey folks

During the winter I would occasionally get the above msg of "ICE" in my temp display when it was cold outside.

It was not consistent that I noted. I just want to know what was going on, for I'm sure that it is a proper indication but I did not find it in my manual when I looked.

If you could please provide some data as to what and why this msg shows up. I would just like to know.

Thank you in advance for your efforts and responses to the above question.

It is in the truck listed below 2008 2500 hd no mechanical mods to the truck, just a few cosmetic mods that I do not think would be affecting the thermometer readings.

I believe under 39 degrees it will show ICE to warn you that there may be ice on the roads.

EDIT: or maybe it's 34 degrees

It will not show "ice" all the time. Mainly when the truck is first started or you drive off the display will say that so you know. I can't remember for sure on my Bravada but I think it may flash across at some point after I have flipped back to the temp display from another function.

I guess it's possible that it may display that if the truck had noticed that one of the wheels had slipped some indicating ice.

My truck will do it right after it starts. If I use remote start, I won't see it.

It's kinda stupid though. The other day it was dry, sunny and 34° but it warned of ice. But the days where it's 0° and wet I won't see it. :)

+1 I sometimes see it when its 38 or so, but one day when it was like 19 it didn't show it. I guess maybe its a warning just at or above freezing as the wet/melting ice is much more slippery/dangerous ?

I guess they figure if it's 0 and "wet", and you need to be told it may be icy, you are too stupid to live. :D

Well yeah, the other day it was sunny, dry, and 40° outside. I put it in 4Lo and drove about 10mph on the interstate. I was getting weird looks, one finger salutes and my truck is making this weird grinding sound now . . .

Why? Isn't that pretty standard procedure for Iowegians? :jester:

No, standard procedure for Iowegians is go drive 85mph on the ice, and flip off the guy doing 25. This takes much practice, it is difficult to drink your Starbucks, send a text, and drive at the same time. Let alone when you need a hand to flip someone off.

I'm not a sadist or anything, but I get a certain amount of joy seeng the jerkoff in the Tahoe in the ditch after he passes me. :jester:
