G80 Lsd Conversion + Gearing Questions

I have an 07 NBS Silverado 4.8l V8. Rpo code for rear end is GU5 which shows as 3.23 gearing. As I use this truck to pull a boat I would like to change the gearing to 3.73 and add the G80 LSD. The one-eyed bandit rear end makes it a PITA to get the boat out of the water on a slippery ramp and the traction control is a joke. Anybody know if this is a difficult job (I'm handy) and what parts would be needed to complete this conversion? Any help would be appreciated.

How handy are you? If you dont get the mesh right between the rind and pinion, then you will "blow" your rear-end.

Keep in mind that the g80 is not an LSD. It is a full mechanical locker.

Take it to a pro. Also, if you wanna spend money for a LSD, don't waste your money on the gov-bomb (G80). Go with something along the lines of the Detroit Tru-Trac.

I can deal with the gearing for now but the LSD rear is imperative. What would you recommend for this truck? I dont want a full locker as regular driving would be impacted. Just want both tires to be able to pull the boat out of the water.......

Go to a drug dealer. Also, if you wanna spend money on LSD, don't waste your money on the government shit. Go with something along the lines of the "mr. natural" or "rose sunshine" or "orange sunshine"

Just researched the Detroit Truetrac. Looks like a winner. Was thinking OEM to begin with because I thought it would be easier to install. How difficult is the install for the Truetrac?

Def a winner. They both require about the same to install. I am pretty handy myself, but I am not even going to attempt to swap mine with my gears. I would have to buy all of the specialty tools to do the job, none of which I have used before. I don't know about you, but with a job that requires a micrometer, I think I will let the pro's handle it.

I would definetly let a professional handle this. You dont want to be stranded pulling your boat becasue you accidentally measured wrong with the micrometer and now the rear end has gone bye bye. Consult a reputable shop in your area and get some quotes that way you may also get some kind of warranty on work as well. Be sure to follow the break in procedure correctly to help with the life of the gears.

Any thoughts about the Powertrax No-Slip? It looks alot easier to install and would do what I wanted it to do...

I have installed a few of them, and they work great. They only replace the spider assy. There is a little bit of a click when they unlock around corners, but no big deal.
