Magnaflow Catback Exhaust!

Strap in everybody! I need to vent!

:puke:

Holy Crap! OK well 3 hours later the cat back and the Black Bear replacement PCM are installed! WTF?! If your planning on doing this install make sure you budget enough time... Sheesh! (somebody on here said they did it in 20 min... pfft!)

Those damn flange bolts we're the problem.I haven't driven my truck in 2 days, both days I went out and got under there and hit the bolts we penetrating oil, I figured that would do the trick! (Yeah Right!) After about 20 minutes I snap'ed one of them then decided to cut the other one off. Now i gotta drill them out! Another 30 min trying to do that I finally reached for the torch. Finally, I was able to heat'em up and punch them out. So an hour and a half later I'm able to start fitting the exhaust. :puke:

The muffler inlets ended up being a little bit of a pain since they had been crimped with the clamps on the previous install (bought it from another forum member), so that took a few minutes to get the pipes on. Loooonnnng story short exhaust it on!

The PCM took under 10 minutes soup to nuts. Luckily the truck started right up, so I didn't have to do the crank relearn procedure. At least that was easy...

Ok well.... I feel better!

Anybody else go through the same ordeal?

Also, Why the hell was my intermediate pipe completely rusty? I thought the stock exhaust was completely SS. What gives?

Anybody else notice that?

You mean you didn't have to do the Security Relearn  (crank relearn is totally different). When we installed the Magnaflow on the Tahoe, we just cut the stock exhaust right off, much easier!

I had the exact same problem with the studs on my truck. I ended up shearing both of them off. It took me about the same amount of time to drill through the flange.

Alright, good. Well not good for you but at least it makes me feel better that I'm not alone. Thanks for letting me know...

HaHa... Yeah Security Relearn... That's what I meant... Sheesh Jenna... Always crackin the whip! j/k.

Yeah I guess I should have know... I've done my share of exhausts and flange bolts are always a PITA...

Great news, thanks! I'm heading out to start the install on my exhaust system onmy truck when my wife gets home and can watch the kids. Not looking forward to getting the converter bolts out either. Hopefully a Mapp gas torch will heat things up enough to break a rust bond. Wish I had air in my garage so I could use my impact.

Yeah try the torch first! I wish I had. The impact gun didn't help, it snapped one of the studs off.Maybe the combination of the 2 will get it off. If not just try to cut the studs as close to the collector side of the flange then heat it up and use a punch and BFH on it.

Good Luck!

SO... other than the bolts (which sucks, but they are generally toast on a truck with a few miles) how did the install go? Sounds like the rest was a piece of cake like everybody said.

It is so easy, a monkey can do it.

Mine were stuck on there pretty good too so rather than get all pissed off I just heated it with a torch, came right apart then.

If the bolts hadn't been such an issue, the job would have pretty easy. Not the easiest, but then again i've never done a truck.

I would say it would have been alot more manageable with a 2nd set of hands....

BTW - Magnaflow fit was perfect as always.

Yup... Wish I had reached for the torch earlier.

Oh well! I don't usually get pissed off with these sorts of things but the truck is an 06 with 26K miles on it. Why is there so much rust under there?
