08 Sierra Nav Help Needed -- Voice Commands

I purchased a new 09 unlocked navigation radio. I installed it over the weekend, and everything works except for the voice recognition feature. I installed the VSS/Voice harness, and verified it was installed correctly. When I hold the mute button, the Onstar system goes directly to asking to make a phone call. I do not receive the beep prompt as specified in the manual. Since the unit was new, I did not have to go to the dealer to have it unlocked. Is the Voice Command feature suppose to automatically be enabled when the nav is installed, or do I have to go to a dealer to have the Onstar module re-programmed to recognize the navigation unit? Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

do you have UQA and Y91 RPO codes, if so you need to run 2 wires down to the bose amp

I have the UQA option, but I do not have the Y91 option. I do receive turn by turn directions through the speakers, but I am not given the option of entering voice commands because I do not receive a beep from the Onstar module when the mute button is held. I appreciate your assistance.

I have read where some people have had trouble with the voice wires not having a good connection and causing problems like this. I know it's a major pain to get that trim piece off, but you might try going back in and wiggling the wires around a bit. The Voice Command feature did activate itself on mine, I didn't have to take it in to dealer. If its any comfort to you, those voice commands are pretty useless anyway, I tried some of them out in the driveway last weekend and was less than impressed. As long as turn by turn voice prompts work, that's all you need. By the way, does your onstar work correctly otherwise, green lite on the mirror and you can communicate with the operator?
