Lifting Truck To Do Work

Recommended Posts

What can I use to lift the rear of my truck so I can do some exhaust work in my driveway? There are some old metal ramps out in the shed, but I think they are for small cars, do you think those would hold it (and do you know what I'm talking about lol)?

i lift the front end of my truck with ramps that are just a little bit smaller than my tires alot. The ramps hold up just fine. SInce the rear end is a lot lighter in weight i bet they will hold. Don't hold me reliable though, just saying my experiences.

Please don t go under the truck without the proper jack stands too because you don t trust the ramps. I guess you ll be OK cause the wheels will still be on anyway.

+1

I use the sheet metal ramps when I change oil, which are WAY too small for my tires. But I also chock both rear tires, put small 4x4 blocks under/inside the ramps....AND I use jack stands under the a-arms.

thanks guys

I have a jack, I am not sure what it is rated for. If I do jack it, where do you put the jack, under the rear dif? Where should I put jackstands, under the frame?

Yeah, jack it up from the rear diff, but make sure its planted WELL in the jack cup. Once its up enough for the jackstands to fit under, put them under there and adjust them up higher as you jack.

If you put the truck on the ramps and put the jack under the diff, you should be plenty safe. Just make sure it frrls nice and sturdy before crawling under.

could I use a 2 ton jack? The biggest jack stands I have found in stores were 3 tons, are those ok?

MORE than enough.

 Just don't crawl under there with only the jack holding the truck up.
