2006 6.0 Engine Cranks And Stalls

Recommended Posts

I have a 2006 Chev. 2500 HD w/ 6.0 l. Engine cranks but, stalls. I've checked all the fuses under the hood and in the cab. I've got fuel pressure. Also, it won't communicate with scan tool-- Snap-On MODIS. I hate to believe computer problem with only 70,000 miles. Thanks for any help!

When you turn on the ignition switch (just to on, not start), do all the lights or indicators come on as they should? Specifically the check engine light?

I don't know about newer vehicles, but on older vehicles this light comes directly from the ECM computer. And if it is not coming on, then this could be an indication it does not have power, a blown fuse, etc.

Bill, Yes the engine light comes "on" and I've noticed the indicator light for the gear shift doesn't. Thanks

If the indicator light for the gear shift would normally come on with just ignition on, it did this when the vehicle was working OK, then suddenly stopped coming on when this problem started, then that may be a clue to your problem.

If you don't remember, it may mention this light in your owner's manual.

I don't have a factory electrical diagram for your vehicle to look at. I do have a 2008 to look at though. This could be way off from your vehicle, but I could peek and see which electronic "gizmo" powers a light such as that.

Do you have automatic or manual transmission?

This is from a 2008, so may not apply to your vehicle...

I would check extra careful the "IPC" fuse and the "AUX HVAC-IGN" fuse if you have these.

Otherwise, it looks like the Instrument Panel Cluster and BCM would be vital components as they have to do with the transfer of data around the vehicle. (2008 though)

But not much you can do other than checking the fuses for these things.

When you say engine cranks...I assume you mean that it is actually running...and then stalls quickly, and stops running as soon as you let off of the key.

If this is right...check your oil pressure sending unit/switch and related wiring.

If there is no oil pressure..*or it THINKS that there is no oil pressure) it will shut off the fuel pump upon starting and releasing the key.

As for the code reader not working...check the CIG LIGHTER FUSE.
