Still Here. Still Rollin' In The '67

Hey all. Been gone from here for quite some time. Got married in September. Lost my job in November. Still looking, but depression set in and I didn't care about much of anything, so I stuck to just my classic truck forum (67-72chevytrucks.com) Plus, GM has kinda pissed me off since all of this bailout BS started, still love 'em, but pissed at 'em. I still have my Z71 and my S-10.

 

Anyway, already this year my truck has been to Charlotte a couple times and I recently took it on a 300 mile round trip to Newport, TN for a show/meet. The 700R rocks. I got 16.7mpg on the TN trip. I've put over 10K on the truck since Nov. 2006.

 

Here's a few pics. One is obviously from the wedding with both of my favorite girls. The others are from Newport, TN. I won 3rd for modified 67-72 trucks (there was quite a few more than in the pics.) In the trophy pic I'm the one kneeling in the middle.

Glad to see you back in here man!

 

Congrats on the wedding but sorry to hear about the job thing. That bites. Hope it works out soon.

Buckfever, I wish you luck man! I wouldn't wish losing their job on anybody, it really sucks, I was at my company over 4 years.

 

Thank God my wife graduated last may and has been working as a vet since last June. I get unemployment, but it pays crap compared to what I used to make as a Civil Engineer Site Designer. Not a big demand for engineers right now. We're actually closing on a nice home in a few days. It's got a whole acre to hide most of my crap. Don't worry, we have plenty of $ to pay the bills, and with tax and insurance included the home is only $30 more per month than our two bedroom apartment. She's the sole reason I've been able to keep all of my toys as well. Before I lost my job our combined income was very high with no kids, no credit card debt, and NO car payments. I hope to go back to work soon, I've had quite a few interviews lately. I didn't have ANY for the first few months! I want to spend some $$$ on the 67!

Losing a job sucks...hope you get employed soon.I had a '67 longbed years ago and loved it.I should've never sold it.Here's an old pic taken in '76 IIRC...the pic's not too good but you get the idea

Got the house over a week ago. Been working like mad to remodel the inside before our apt lease runs out on June 30th.

 

But, what's important is that for the first time in 13 years, my truck has it's own home :sigh:

 

I may be going back to work very soon :D

I had a '72 Cheyenne, but a telephone pole jumped out in front of it. You can pretty much guess what happened to it. :D

It doesn't look that bad... was the truck totaled?

 

 

I consider it to be.The frame took the hit and got bent to sh*t.The cab is all jacked up and pushed over & twisted some.

Being an old truck I didn't have the insurance on it to fix it...there are some parts on it I can use on my sons '69.I took the wheels off and are now sitting in my computer room with me...

BTW,I read your thread build on your '67,very cool.You put alot of time & money into it and it shows.That's one nice p/u. :D

      How many years have I pointed out every point in that link to the folks here and been avalanched with criticisms and outright hostilities at times? I ran counter to even the great CUSTOMBOSS and Lake Speed Jr and the half dozen experts on YouTube and in the final.....GM, Physics (Stribeck) backs that Grumpy old Bear.    Honestly, I never said a thing engineering hadn't studied silly and laid in concrete during WWII. But I'm old, the information is old and yet, the Laws of Physics are eternal.    Okay there is one exception. I vehemently disagree with their use of the word 'tolerances' when what it meant is "clearance".   The clearance is the distance between two objects. The tolerance is the degree of acceptable variation permitted in that clearance. I.E., piston to bore clearance is 0.004" with a tolerance of +/- .0002" so the clearance is in specification if it lies between 0.0038" and 0.0042". Cutting that 'tolerance in half has ZERO impact on lubrication requirements. Makes for more difficulty in manufacturing.  But a tighter clearance 'MAY'. Depends on finish. Anyway....   It's one of those statements made by people to make themselves look smarter than they are to convince people who are as un-enlighten as they seem to manipulate their behaviors. But hey, the blind leading the blind puts them both in the pit.

      Out and about yesterday on a long Saturday drive I passed a lot of Shell stations. My preferred, so I pay attention. Lot's of small town Illinois so not six stations in three blocks like the city.    Everyone of them over a radius of say 100 miles had regular at $4.19 but one which was the one closest to home at $4.15. However Premium pricing varied greatly between 85 cents over regular to $1.50 over. I'm not counting the price of the station with the lowest regular so the reference is the same for the remainder and all within the same brand. However the spread discrepancy holds across all brands.     @txab, any thoughts on that?

      What are your thoughts? The Chevy Blazer relaunch was an epic case of 'lunchbag letdown'. Jeep Wranglers and Ford Broncos stick out like a sore thumb.    The AI photos do not look like a 'retro version', but shrunken Tahoes. Get away from the 'futuristic look'. I've seen two concepts. One had rectangular headlight like a Rivian and the other way too big headlights (similar to a previous non-Wrangler SUV) should include dual round headlights like the early version.   If not this would look OK   At least it has GM styling (albeit the K2XX) A lot of the images floating around look like Bronco IIs or the current Bronco. Looking at the Broncos in my area (central Ontario, it seems to be a mix of 2 doors and 4 doors, 'mall rated' to ones that could go offroad.    I'm sure a AT4 and AT4X RPOs could be outfitted similar to a Rubicon if the braintrust understood the whole offroad scene. Crossing my fingers that if it does see the light that the front air dam/bumper doesn't extend below the center line of the tire...
