Driveline Clunk. Front Or Rear?

Forgive me for not knowing. I know this topic has been beaten to death and I know that I need the nickel slip yoke or I can grease it every 6 months, but I don't know what I'm replacing or greasing. I'm a network engineer by trade and enjoy doing my own work, but I haven't been able to figure out what part of the driveshaft I work with. Is it the tranny side or the rear end side that causes the clunk? If I grease it, can someone give me a step by step, maybe with pictures, on what to do? Likewise if I buy a new slipyoke, how do I replace it? I've read the posts, but unfortunately, without pictures, I'm not clear on what I'm reading. Sorry if this is basic stuff I should know, but....

I just want to be clear on what I'm doing before I start and screw something up. Thanks for any help.

Wish I had pictures but I don't. You remove the 4 bolts at the differential then push the drive shaft towards the tranny to pull away from the yoke on the differential. Then you can swing the drive shaft away from the differential and pull it out of the tranny. Inside the round part that mates with the tranny are the splines. You grease those, how much? I'm not really sure, I put a decent coating when I did it, enough to fill most of the splines.

It's been years since I replaced a U joint, so I can't remember the steps right off the top of my head, hopefully someone else will get back to you on that subject.
