Upgrade To Bose

You're better off going aftermarket, lots & lots of posts about speakers that will work in your truck.

My buddy has an Escalade with a 8" lift and he used to work in a stereo shop. His system slams with Kicker components.

Anywho.. he said something to me one time about the Bose system and I am curious to hear what anyone else thinks. I know Bose makes a high quality home system. But have you ever seen Bose in a car stereo shop?

I have always upgraded stereo components in my vehicles, but since this had Bose in it, I was going to leave it alone. Now I want an upgrade ....

I have a 2005 Silverado with the Bose system. I have to agree with the others here that you should upgrade with aftermarket. I am not a stereo fanatic or anything, but the Bose system in my truck doesn't seem to be anything special, sounds just as good as the stereo in my base model Malibu that the truck replaced and not as good as the stereo in my wife's Grand Caravan.

Go aftermarket. Get component speakers and a proper amp to power them. Components will help with the midrange as there is no tweeter in the center of the speaker, just a woofer. Any smaller speakers (4"x6") should be replaced too. I considered going with Polk MOMO series components in my last truck, but didn't want to spend money on equipping it with another amp.

Mine came with the Bose setup and it was not very good....but as you said, I didnt want to go aftermarket either. I had a couple of better tweeters put in the windshield pillars and

a subwoofer under the back seat and now it sounds pretty good. That is probably the cheapest way to go and stay with the factory head unit.

That's exactly the right way to go. Keep the factory H/U for appearances sake and go aftermarket with the amp(s), speakers, and if desired subs. You'll get MUCH better quality from that than getting a factory Bose setup.

In my opinion Bose components for home or auto are not considered an upgrade in my book. Bose puts more money into advertising than into R&D, which is a ploy to convince the public that if you want a quality sound system by Bose. :P Anyone ever gone to a Bose home theater sound demo and seen them compare there Bose system to another manufactures sound system? They might be better than the sound system built into the TV itself, but there are much better products out there, so don't pay for advertising. Take some time and do your homework and you'll end up with a great sounding system for less money than the Bose system.

Most aftermarket components are not only cheaper but they will sound and perform better.

Totally agree with BOSE being more of a name thing. My new truck has the BOSE speaker system, sounds great to me but there are better aftermarket options out there like the others have stated.
