Leveling

Newbie here with a 2008 Silverado 2500HD Z-71. Mechanically what is the difference between cranking the TB's vs. installing re-indexed keys (leveling kit)? It seems to me that it does the same thing. Please help. I just ordered new wheels and tires (285-65-18) and will probably need to lift the front an inch or two. Thanks, Dave

there is absolutely no mechanical difference, they both do the same thing.

you should be able to get 1-2" out of the stock keys... and you shouldnt go any higher than that anyways.

Edit: and remember, just because you can clear the tires after cranking your torsion bars doesnt mean they wont rub. Your suspension can still compress the same amount as stock, therefore any tire that would rub stock will rub with the torsion bars cranked if you do anything that results in the suspension compressing.

the only really small difference ive heard of is, when cranking the stock keys its a little easier to break the bolts, but i wouldnt change the stock ones, just crank em up. The bolt wont break unless you take speed bumps as 80MPH+ :D

You're not supposed to do that? Lol oops.

If you do the TB trick make sure you remove the rubber stops as you will bottom out when going over speed bumps. There will be one on each side just behind the shocks.

Not sure if this is still applicable to your year but it will be something to check to make sure.

Also be sure to get an alignment immediately after.
