Another Exhaust Question

What I am wanting to know is has anyone with a Vmax just replace their muffler while leaving the stock resonator? Did you get much drone. I am thinking that going that route vs a cat back I may get the sound I want without having to turn off the AFM.

So many views and no response yet. I think if you do that it might make your truck explode :P This is something that I want to also do, the stock system looks like the build quality is at least equal to aftermarket ones, just not a shinny.

Well, I don't think alot have done it on the Vmax... yet quite a few have done it on the 5.3. Most people end up cutting off the resonator cause it ends up not being loud enough. I'd do just what your saying and swap out the muffler, leaving the resonator in place and if you don't get the results you want, then cut the resonator off.

I think you'll find that the resonator will keep the system pretty quiet. It's essentially a second muffler.

I did  MY 07 V Max had the muffler cutout and a flowmaster 50 or70 put in. Left the tailpipe and resonator. Pretty quiet on the highway. A bit louder. And a louder WOT and idle. AFM wasn t bad either because it wasn t a LOUD exhaust. I m doing my 09 next week the same way. I still have nt seen a resonator on the new 5.3. I don t think they have one.

That is a good question. I don't see them being THAT much louder then the 5.3's, but who knows. I went with that Corsa Muffler and I have no drone and don't notice it going in and out of 4cyl mode. I will add that my tires do a little humming and they may be drowing those noises out. I say chop it all off and just use a muffler. Actually, I'll suggest getting it done with the resonator in place and seeing if you like it. If its not what you want, chop the resonator out and re-do it.
